Persuasion skill

Hi,

I suspect this has been discussed before but i am crap at using the Search feature. So here goes:

What is the Persuasion skill good for? AFAIK, you only get to use it while trying to collect debts on behalf of other lords. And, most of the time, it fails. The difference between offering 700 denars and 640 (or whatever) to complete the quest and gather the goodwill is minimal.

I've done this kind of quest for a couple of people i wanted to get friendly with, paid my 700 denars and got most of it back when being given my cut from the debt collection.

So... what's the point of the skill?

BUT... If the world of M&B was to evolve a bit more and we'd get a bit more diplomacy/strategic options, i think that skill should be made dead-useful.

TBH, i looked at some of the mods - i am not sure at all how to install any of these or whether we need to pay for them. But i can tell you that while some look gorgeous/are very nice developments, i'd love to see Native pushed a bit more.

How come you can have some formations in Swadian Civil War but not Native? Is it because you pay to get Civil War? (i.e. a question of business model?) How come you can blast castle doors in some mods but not Native? Etc etc.

Sorry, that was an aside - I meant, would the time of the developpers not be best spent upgrading Native rather than developping too many new mods?

I'm a newbie so, if anything i said, is really stupid, please put it down to inexperience rather than true intellectual default!

In Civil Wars it helps lords choose your side

and mods are free, unzip using winrar win7

then place in your mount and blade modules folder

I will be brave and try

Still, why some of the improvements made in mods cannot be added to Native? Swadian Civil War looks fun (and it's not the only mod that looks good - Sicily looks great too with economic/war of attrition modelling) but it'd be great to be able to do these things Calradia-wide

If you ask the developers they may send you the contents of the mod you like (kingdom management for example) then you copy it into your Native folder, I think.

Persuasion also plays a role in getting your companions to stay with you if they decide to leave, and (I think) persuading enemy lords not to attack you if you know the battle is lost. Oh, and definitely plays a part when helping a claimant turn lords over to your side. So it has its uses.

Edit: Oh, and the mods aren't made by the developers of the game.
Aaaahhh... Things become clearer.

Jeezzz... Some of these mods look very tempting but how to select is going to be a major headache. I'll start a new thread after i researched them a bit more.

Kingdom management sounds great...

As to the other use of Persuasion - Fair enough, i did not realise it helped with Companions/during a Rebellion... I kinda like the possibility of a rebellion but, in practice, with so little management in Native, i didn't really see the point - You're still just running around smashing everything to eventually dominate the map...

It's really good fun and i fell in love with M&B really fast but I still think it can be a bit boring after a while and some more content (quest/management orientated) would complement the awesome fighting component of the game...

There's a thread here:  http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,58063.0.html that has some brief summaries.  I don't think you can go wrong with any of the ones that have an active child board in the Cartographer's Guild.

Kingdom management sounds great...
Oh, it is!
This is probably why just about every mod includes it in one form or another.

Mods are the answer.  Hunt around a bit; there are some great ones.

Thanks. I do realise that, as a newbie, i am bound to ask questions already answered 590 times before but searching is not all that practical when you really want a precise point answered...

Looking forward to it, then.

Thanks. As i said, M&B really was a big hit with me. I like medieval sword fighting so i was quite keen. To be fair, nothing can reproduce the variety of moves seen in real life (it'd have to be a different game, with some combos like seen in arcane games such as Street fighter or whatever the recent ones are named nowadays) but i love tactical and strategic planning. I would want a game that allow you to explore the 3 dimensions: Fighting, tactical and strategical/management... M&B is so close to have it all...

For the OP, i would suggest "Expanded Gameplay III" or "Sword of Damocles".

Expanded Gameplay III (EGIII) simply cause it makes combat so much more interesting, i know its not what ya asked for, but yeah, atleast it makes it more of a challenge.

And Sword of Damocles(SoD), Probaly the mod i have found with the most kingdom management and stuff.

Thanks.

I am still reviewing the mods available and Sword of Damocles certainly looked promising.
And, to be clear, i am all for more varied fighting - if it can be done simply.

I suspect many people here, incl. the developpers, might be fond of medieval sword fighting - like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38sVdx7nzhQ&feature=related or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWISsk0cy74&feature=related

I found M&B to be pretty good already with its fighting  But, i am open to more...
