Hey all, ive been designing  an event i want input on.

The event would be a weekly event probaly on the weekend at the same time each week.

The setting

A region torn by war and conflict, currently in a uneasy peace with each other.
each week the factions take part in a tournament to prove there strength before going back to there normal business.

The Tournament
Each faction can enter into 3 events with there champions.
-A Archery contest where the player has to shoot several targets at range.
-A Jousting contest between the factions best horsemen
-A team fight contest, 2 faction teams fight each other with a limited budget split between all members of the faction

The faction that wins each tournament wins 50k gold per contest for the Faction roleplaying that follows.

Back to everyday life...
Factions use the money they win in the tournament to buy a castle, each has a value calculated by its size and location, the stronger the castle the more it costs, the faction leader has to decide which is more important, better starting weaponry or a stronger starting location.

the map will contain a number of captureable areas, factions who capture each location will be rewarded with more cash to fight with.
The rest of the event leaves the factions to fight and compete over the locations, do you ally a faction and share the income and take a penalty or do you take it yourself and take it all yourself!!

Factions who control the most land will get a small bonus to the next weeks event.

Neutrals
All neutrals and traders can ally who they want, factions must convince them to join their cause, there are no set jobs for traders, aslong as its a reasonable job

faction to faction relations is decided by factions ingame, you can ally with anyone you want :smile:
the idea is freedom with objectives! :grin:

any persistant faction created on this forum can join with their friends, the larger factions naturally have an advantage but the smaller ones need less money to fund weapons and armour for everyone :grin: less people to share with etc
 
Sounds pretty fun although im unsure how the money thing would work. I mean we would have to keep track of everyone's money, as well as how much all the building things cost. Plus we need someone to volunteer to make the map (and make it playable, I would be surprised if RCC put it out for us to play on) and a server hoster would be very good too.

Also for the team contest, instead of splitting the money within the team. Two fighters should be elected from each team and given say... 6k each? Than these two man teams fight, allowing strategy but also making it more of a showdown. Getting all factions in at once could add a fun teamwork deathmatch type of thing. Multiple enemy teams, and one comrade.

All in all, I like the idea. Just make sure you can get everything thought out. (I volunteer to represent Tidwell in archery :razz:)
 
Better yet: give arena fighters there choice of wooden weapon + crappy shield (if 1h sword) and make them wear basic tabards xD would be fun to watch in PWMod.
 
Better yet! Make them go naked and use knives xD
(Its actually a lot of fun, I sliced TIDM up xD)

Ehh... that could go bady (Thinks back to that fully armored knight charging naked me, me getting a shortbow and eventually winning) As long as I can get a weapon while fighting... :razz:

Or I can just stick with shooting silly stationary targets and win us a Tidrock!

    I'm a terrible sport, and I would only join if there were ACTUAL PEOPLE, and if I had a chance to win.
 
im currently looking into a persistant map.

basically its a map with 5 or so regions , each with space to build. the faction starts with a wooden castle and a small village and a farm
Then around the map will be neutral areas which act like captureable land for those factions

for example if Blue faction hold the main village and a large castle they get XXX gold a week which they can use to purchase actual ingame permiment buildings and upgrades :grin: like a wall around there village or a farm which increases income.

the idea is each week the different factions will make choices of improving there economy or defense.

for example

50k base starting budget

Building Shop
100k gold per house each house adds 4000 to the starting budget.
300k gold for a wooden wall
2000k for a wooden outpost
300k for a farm which gives the village food for 3 more houses.
1000k for a armoury level up.
5000k for a Stone castle.

mercs hireable = number of farms on the land x 3 etc?

the checkpoints would have 1 trade good on it, the middle checkpoint will have velvet which is worth more then the others so its traders would be bringing in more gold for securing it.
get the idea?

at the end of each weekly event the factions have a week to buy upgrades of the mapmaker using the budget.
i havent figured out the pricing or if its even a good idea.

i just think it would be interesting to see what factions do what, like do they make a giant defendable wall around there base,  or do they increase their economy or rush better starting weapons etc :grin:

Its a pretty good idea for a weekly map update with buyable lands :grin:. However i dont think that tournaments would be a good idea. Cant we set up control points? Like in battlefield gameplay where you have to hold the flags. For example, every 12 hours, the event starts and lasts for an hour or so, and every 5 minuts, 1 point is added per location that you hold(the locations would be always the same and predetermined, so for example you can build forts etc around them if they are in your land :grin:).

Then there are 2 choices, eighter the realms receive a fixed amount of gold depending on the POSITION of how many points they have, so for example first place wins 10k 2nd place wins 5k and so on, or for every point a faction gets 5k for example.

Tournaments should be still held weekly though as extra income.
Of course since the flag thing will be held every day or so, the income will be low, like a few K per flag, so the money starts piling up slowly, and even if you only log once a week or so, you can still help out your faction.

However i see a bit of difficulty regulating the location holding thing, because you will need eighter lots of screenshots or referees, or a good set of CLEAR rules, for example the parameters for how to capture a land from another group etc.

This is how i imagine it.

we have a basic map, every faction chooses a starting location.
the grey spots represent objectives. with a key objective in the middle such as the town

they all start claiming lands around them as there own as base lands. where they will build the villages and

then they start getting greedy and go for other objectives, which starts fights, buy walls and defenses on there border etc.

i imagine each faction having 8-12 men in it. so 50 people online in factions 30 or so neutrals who have to be recruited for hire in villages.the larger your faction the easier it is to control larger land etc :razz:

i might be been abit to bold :razz: but its more of a idea then anything, ive had alot of positive feedback for it sofar so id love to find a way to make it work
 
I wouldnt think that putting villages as a capture location would be a good idea. Its more of a good idea to leave it in the open, and then its up to the respective landowners to build walls around their objectives close to their land so that they can have better defence on their borders. At the start there will only be 1 capital city, and open field battles for control of the points to get money. After a few weeks castles would start getting built over the control points so that they could better defend it and effectively get more money since their realms would be the closest.

 
control points arent going to be just villages, they are things like bridges and mines etc
which make sense to capture
 
I can look into developing a basic map which can be used to expand upon - although I have to wonder if the War game mode would be suited for this?

Not sure if War game mode would work for it... but maybe.

Also, I love the idea! I know for sure though that things would need to be balanced out a bit more for the future. Also, what can a faction do with the money after it's reached the max upgrades? Increase their land claim?
