Performance Tweaks?

Hi All

Just have a few questions...

1. Are there any well known performance tweaks for Warband?
2. What does "force single threading" do?

Basically I have a nice computer but Im getting crap frame rates in large battles... When I read people on this forum getting much much better with computers that are no where near as nice as mine... Im just wondering if there is something Im missing here?

For example did a battle last night... My 164 troops vrs 200 ish Rhods... Frames in the thick of the battle got as low as 10fps... 10!!

My computer can easily play Crysis on ultra with no problems at all, no slow downs nothing... How can Warband bring it to its knees? It just doesnt make sense?

My System:
AMD Phenom II x4 955
Asus M4A79T Deluxe
Gskill 4gb DDR3 1600
Gigabyte HD6850 x2 crossfire (although I disable crossfire since I find that with crossfire on warband runs alot worse than just with one card)

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks

This game would have to be the most craply coded game ever if I have to drop my graphic settings to play it... It looks generally worse than Counter Strike graphics (not that I really care about graphics cause the game itself is so good, but surely this level of graphics should work on my system no problems)

Well, the Chinese once used their supercomputers and managed to get 30FPS stable, so that should tell you something.

Gah this is annoying me so much...

I have tried everything... I "forced single threading" cause Ive read that that helps with multicore systems... Ive tried the "set affinity" fix in task manager...

Ive even tried turn everything down to as low as it goes... And Im still getting crap fps in large battles...

What is really annoying is reading others on this forum, running their battle limit at 1000 and getting no slow downs, when I cant even run 400 battle limit without going below 7fps and my system is ten times better than theres...

Its really pissing me off... What good is it spending all this money on a computer that cant even run Warband well...

Ive tried having everything on absolute low...

Its almost like the game just stops requesting resources or something cause I monitor both my graphics cards and processor and ram, and all while in the thick of the battle (and while the frames are the lowest) are barely working at 25%...

I have the same problem, nomatter what I do warband refuses to use more then 30% of my processing power (i have an i5 760, quad core thing). Even the option 'force single threading doesn't seem to do anything with respect to cpu usage.

Did you activate 'force single threaded' in the options?

Yep done that... This is the tweaks I have tried:

- Force single threading in configuration
- In task manager I have set core affinty for "Warband.exe 32" at first unticking all cores but core 0 and clicking ok, then immediately going back in and ticking all cores and then Ok.
- Downloaded Warband directly from taleworlds using my CD key from steam (converting the 5x5 to 4x4)
- Putting Vsync on and setting max frame rate to 60fps.
- Dropped all graphical settings to absolute low.
- Turned off blood.
- Turned off partical and reflections.
- Tried running in Direct X 7.
- In task manager tried setting priority of "warband.exe 32" to realtime.

All of these make minimal difference in game... The difference in frames between full graphics and lowest graphics is 5 or 6 at the most... Meaning in battle at full graphics I might at the lowest get 8fps, and in the same battle at lowest graphics I might get 13 or 14 fps.

Try turning down the resolution of your reflection on the screen. I did it and it totally improved my performance greatly!

okay, post your system specs....

Thanks...

Ah yeah, sorry I totally forgot, my bad.

Intel i5 760 2.8 Ghz
8GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GTX 470 1280MB

anything more you want/need to know?

I basicly did these things

and saw no noticable difference in performance whilst looking at the fight. The performance only gets better when units die. I tested it in custom battle mode 200 vs 200. Whatever I do, Warband doesn't use more then 30% of my cpu. I do see a difference in fps when I move to the side of the map away from the battle though. So I guess it has something to do with the buildup of the scene or something, not necesarily (spelling?) of the unit AI, as I guess it also is in action when I don't look at the units.

Um explain that part again? How do you turn down the resolution of reflections? lol or is that just worded weird?

My monitor only supports 1680x1050 so its not like Im playing on a super high resolution anyway, but lol Ill give it a go tonight to see if resolution helps...

Its BS aye... Our systems should dominate warband lol... But thanks for clearing something up for me... I was wondering if somehow Warband takes a huge amount of ram, and I have 4gb and was wondering if that is enough... But you have 8 and are experiencing the same problem so it cant be that...

I too only get about 25-30% of my cpu being used...
