Pendorian troops or Sarleon troops aren´t bad. All you need to do is using and mixing them proper. If you´re unable to get enough fun out of that, stick with F1F3 and abuse the common-as-muck-Hero-Adventurers because....
why use finesse if you can use the heavy tank regiment?
Pendorian regulars are common as muck and farmers upgrade into them as well. Easily available. Cheap. Perfect for garrison duty and fodder missions.
Not to mention, black suits every occasion.
