Hey all, and welcome to the minor thread of the Peloponnesian War Mod! This mod will be very unique, with changed ranging from new maps and equipment, to new hereos to fight with! If you'de like to here more if this mod, visit thw Official Forum here http://dwlubu.dw.funpic.de/forum/ . This mod team consists of Lynores, Lu Bu, and me of course! Please sign up at the official forum, for if we dont get enough people, the forum will close us out...Thanks for the visit!

I can make some weapons models, if you'd like. If ancient decides not to use my Falcata, you can have it (Of course, that'd be a bit anachronistic, as the falcata was used by Alexander...)

but what about hoplites, they're not so tough if they're not in phalanx formation, and since there's no formations.. so what do you plan to do about that? i could, of course, be wrong...

though, if you could pull the mod together, i know i'd play it.

We are working with codes to see about formations in python, but I'm pretty sure nothing can be done about it. If you have a group of them, and you use the charge command, they usually charge in somewhat of a straight line, which will work...kind of I guess...read the other forum for some other fancy ideas

you could just say that its all skirmish based, rather than the conventional line up in pretty squares and walk at each other. Should be good though, I do like this time period. Have you got much work done yet? any chance of some screenies?

I've been working on this for about a month, and just now I've seen this thread.

Happens when you're modding so much that you don't have the time to read anything.

Anyways, someone's actually working on this, besides me? So far, I thought I was the only one.

I'll post a couple of pics and thumbnail them when I get home. I am taking the time to texture everything from scratch (w/o pictures and stuff), so it's taking me double the time it should. It'll get better, eventually, these are not done yet.

Very nice! The breastplate is probably one of those less complex ones (not like the muscled cuirass), but it looks very good.

I assume the spear animation will be the one handed overhand, correct?

No man that's the back of the cuirass, here's the front. It's still to be finished though. About the held up stance for the spears, yeah that's what I have in mind. I'll have to look into coding to see if it's at all possible, though. Not all spears were held up though, ie. the macedonian sarissa. I won't be updating this thread, I'll post again when we're ready for beta, but feel free to ask / suggest anything.

It's possible - assign the one-handed spear the animation for a sword-thrust and you have a fairly decent go at an overhand spear-thrust.

Maybe these will help?

After pelo war though..

Nice pics, Gothic Knight. I made some of those shields already, but that'll help me to paint the 3-leg-running one.

There's several items done, and all weapons are being retextured from iron to bronze, since I'm not yet sure about the time period. I wanted to start from the bronze age of mycenaean greece, and push forward into the persian wars and the peloponnesian war. That way I could be adding new factions and units (hopefully the war elephants if we get an upgrade in our modding tools) as I go.

Anyways, here you go another one. The Lakednoi Xiphos and the Machaira Xiphos (swords), plus the Sarissa spear below.. They are still a bit too large, I'll rearrange all model sizes when I'm finished with the armors. The Sarissa is a bit smaller (yep it was even bigger than that).

Thanks for the tip, laundreau. It works, I'll have to adjust the model a bit, but that'll do.

I know what you mean about the phalanx, I'm dying to have it as well. I'm pretty positive that Amargan will implement the formations eventually. Once the formation system is in, it'll be possible to mod it and add unique formations (ie. phalanx). The main point is to make it impossible to be able to ride around in one horse killing everyone on foot. About the player units, I think that will be quite easy to do, since you can have the hoplites stand together, wait for the right time and unleash them, they'll run forward and grouped, spears in hand, not many chargers can stand that (provided they're not outflanked anyway). I'm working on party units so that can be done with npcs as well, at least a nice selection of troops to make it more realistic combat-wise. It will have (hopefully) a different combat setting from M&B altogether, since at first it will be mainly a spear fight, with javelins from the peltasts during closure. Then it will swap to swords if needed (some cavalry use only the machaira sword though, while one single cav unit can couch lance).

The spear fight will also be a lot faster and deadlier, due to their training. Swords will be a second (yet beautiful and still useful) choice.

I'll need some help with the custom scripts. If there's anyone willing to work on a code or two, PM me, and I'll give you the details. If there's anyone that has any ideas about new systems and codes, also feel free to PM me. I will look into the coding part, eventually, I'm just so out of time right now, since I'm doing everything else. Fenix will send me an implemented map of greece he made when he gets home (he's in the hospital right now. Take care, dude).
