Payment to mercenaries?

can someone tell me what this payment to mercenaries is keeps varying it's only 5 per day sometime 17 i haven't got any mercenaries also i am a vassal only have 1 companion in my party

I noticed that also.
I think you are paying for part of the kingdom's mercenary clan costs.
It maybe flipping the bills to the entire kingdom, not just the ruler.

Since Mercenary Clan topic came up, one thing I noticed when using them in your own kingdom.
I am sure there are lot more to them that I am not aware of.

Initial cost were pretty large, up to 3,4,5K in some cases, for just hiring 1 Merc. Clan during few weeks.
Overtime, the Merc. cost went down to reasonable, under few to several hundreds.
So I have hired additional 1 clan, to subdue more on other Kingdom.
To my surprise the cost didn't went up that much at all, it was about the same.
So I decided to hire one more. That's total of 3 clans, the cost stayed the same as 1 or 2 clan.

I figure they are getting paid by how much of enemy they destroy or raid, etc.
So, I am thinking about hiring as much of them as I can on startup of next Kingdom.
