Pathfinding

My concern as well.  M&B and Warband both had issues with paths following "roads" (whether visible or not), and taking wide detours through the nearest woods instead of straight across the open plain.  There's something inherently wrong with the program's pathfinding ability when it sends you at MORE THAN 90 degrees off your selected course just because there's a road in the general vicinity, even though that road leads off in some other direction than the one you want, and that ends up putting you further from your destination than when you got onto the road, or when it intentionally detours you through bad terrain when there's a clear and wide path of open terrain between you and your destination.

I understand that the caravans and farmers need pre-set paths to follow to speed up the game, rather than having to calculate new paths each time, but the player party shouldn't be affected by that unless it's a clearly visible road on the map and you're already on it or within a VERY short distance of it (within the width of a village or preferably half that).  Going 3 town widths out of your way or further to reach the nearest road, which you don't want to take, is infuriating.  You end up having to click less than a town's width ahead of your party, over and over, in order to follow a more-or-less straight line.
