patch problem

alright so im new to the whole patching mount and blade and getting mods and so on. My problem is, is that i downloaded the 1.011 patch yet i dunno where to put it, nor can i run it because it says its an unknown file type and all it says is open or cancel when i double click it.

now i dunno if i just dont have the right software or if something went wrong but id like to try out a mod i just d/led and im also wondering why mount and blade itself doesnt have an automatic patch updater.

Assuming you downloaded the game anytime in thhe past year or two, it's already 1.011.

Anyway, I forget what the filetype is. I'm assuming it's a rar and you lack winrar.

i have the actual game and i got it a few years ago i didnt download it.

should  uninstall and download or is there another way?

and yeah i dont have winrar should i get it?

You should get winrar regardless since a ton of stuff comes as a rar file, but I forget if the patch does.

And yeah, if the patch isn't working downloading the game from the taleworlds site will give you 1.011. Your serial SHOULD just stay in the registry, but make a note of it just in case.

got winrar so far no change, im gonna redownload the patch to see if it works differently and if it doesnt then is there a spot i should place it or should it not have to be placed?

Woah, I meant try redownloading the GAME, not the patch.

Though I checked and the patch is an .exe, so unless you're running something silly like a mac I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Try this, assuming windows vista/7:

Open control panel, go to folder options. Click the view tab, and in the box with the tickboxes uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'. Then tell me the file type of the patch - if it still doesn't have .exe at the end, add it and try running it.

I know some download managers mess up file extensions, so that could do it.
