3. Horses no longer rearing in front. I realize this isn't technically a melee problem, but you're using a melee weapon when it happens. Coupled with the shortened bayonet, this means two things. One, you can't stop a heavy horse when it comes to knock you over in melee, even if you hit it. And two, lancers no longer have much to fear attacking you from the front, even if you're paying attention. (Not to mention lancers can *still* couch a lance through their horses head) So now even if you hit the horses head first with your bayonet, which is doubtful, the lance will still couch you and kill you. Even if you're perfectly lined up with the horses head, you cannot defend against the couch any way besides scrambling out of the way. This for me is the big one.
