Password Required - Is this is it not a beta?

Why are passwords suddenly becoming the norm on  servers?  Was just kicked from a EU server because they said it was going to be used for training purposes for a clan.  Training purposes?

Ummm...?

Now there is a password required.

Is this a beta or not?

If a server is passworded, it's either been reserved by a clan/organization (which is endorsed by the devs) or it's a private server.  Just play on a server with no password.

Private servers have the right to password servers,  they are hosted by individuals with no obligation to allow others to use it-  they could use it just for themselves if they wished.

anywho:  compettetive play needs testing just as much as casual play-  ive played a couple of competetive matches and i can tell its allmost a whole new game-  ballence is totaly thrown,  some previusly overpowered weapons pose no threat  (anyone with a twohander is instantly downed by every ranged unit withing range),  other usualy weak weapons are suddenly very usefull.

in order to test coordinated play, servers need passwording.

Actually I would think with a beta you should expect to be kicked from servers and have them all turned off randomly and/or them pulling the plug on you playing at their discretion. There is no inherent right in beta testing, but really what the devs want to be looked at. One day you may log in and see the only thing you can play is conquest. That's what a beta is about.

agreed.  too many people see a beta as just playing a game for free.

I'm a bit capitalistic on this issue.  I see this as, indeed, a game I play for free, my motivation for testing being making the game into what I want it to see it become.  Little work now, more fun later.

well yes-  we test in return for playing for free,  but still, the primary purpose is to test.  if for some reason certain things like passworded servers are needed for more effective testing then thats fair enough.

my point is that a lot of people dont look at this as a beta, but plainly as a free game.

Beta testing is a priviledge, not a right.

Private owners/hosters of certain servers can do whatever they want with their own servers that they are paying for. Concerning EU / US servers, the official Taleworlds hosted servers, we have a thread for reservations and such but those reservations are not even done if the servers are indeed occupied. With the emergence of the private owned servers a lot of the reservations have moved into those servers and thus there is not a problem in the first place.

well the quesiton I have is, how do we get the server? We can't host listen servers ingame (the host game button is grayed out), and I don't see any server downloads.

I blame Taleworlds for giving out the server files to private persons who now use their monopoly to earn money.

Betatesting gone wrong...

contact taleworlds if you actually have a real Server, and are willing to let others play

Some of you seem to fail at reading comprehension.  I could care less if there are private servers or whatever.  But from the way the people on that server acted and spoke was that they were kicking people from the server to "practice and to train in group tactics".  Hey I am cool if people wish to test the game on their own servers and TaleWorlds  can do whatever they like it is their game, but I thought this was a beta...and some of you are treating it like it is a game all ready on the market.  Yes some of do and all you do is play and do not even test.

Tell me how using the same weapon and playing the same faction on the same map is testing?  I'd be interested to know.

There's a real issue with current admins abusing their power, suddenly changing servers to "duel" servers while people have been connected for a long time, then yelling at them for not following "duel rules" when it wasn't a "duel server" when they connected.

Please, Please add a duel game type, so people who want to do so can do it in peace while those who actually want to do deathmatch can also do so.

more "ADMIN ABOOSE!" whining. Its sanctioned. Get over it. If you don't want to duel, please feel free to visit another server, as there are many server available and there is never more than 1 duel server running for a very limited time each week.

duel servers create an excellent controlled environment for testing the dynamics of the game. It provides a clear supplemental way of analyzing player animations, checking mesh lengths, and speed balances which would be much more difficult to test in a standard battle type chaotic environment. Many of the features you currently enjoy in recent patches are the direct result of these duel sessions

More proof that these people shouldn't be running servers.

I dont care if a server is clearly marked for dueling ahead of time. But it shouldnt change midgame while people are there and expect people to comply with it.

Also, there are not that many servers available. I'm not going to play with a 300 ping on an aussie server.

I don't dispute that dueling sessions can aid in testing. But again, pulling that on people without warning is just stupid. some kind of announcement... e.g. "Next game we will be switching to dueling" would be a LOT more appropriate.

And there STILL should be a specific mode for duels, and not just randomly labeling a server "duel" out of the blue.

Funny, I've never changed a server to duel without the vast majority if not unanimous vote. I've never even seen another admin just switch a populated server out of the blue, even when they aren't aware I'm on. I'm calling BS on your claim here.

Furthermore I resent your comment here

There's a real issue with current admins abusing their power,

post evidence or pipe down skipper. I'm getting sick of people whining about absolutely nothing.

While I do like the extra servers, I don't like the monopoly and extra rules they come with.

Well i don't earn a single euro from the servers i'm hosting.  Instead, i pay between 80 and 120 euros/MONTH to keep up Battlegrounds.eu and it's services..
