Passive member of party when captured.

Recruit
As far as I can tell from *searching, this is a new suggestion, and is something I've wanted to see in a game for a long time. [Edit: it may or may not be a new suggestion, depending on how you interpret Orion's post listed at the bottom of the page. Regardless, it discusses the idea in further detail.]

Basically I would like it so that when you are captured, you can be conscripted into a party that you do not control. You would be a passive member of a party on the map screen, and watch until the party engaged an enemy. You would then be required to fight that enemy with the party.

Modifiers:

1. Party goal
Obviously it would be frustrating to be in a party that aimlessly wanders, hence for this to work there would need to be some kind of party goal (e.g. a vaegir war party with a series of goals of conquest, a swadian scouting group consisting of expendable prisoners on a suicide mission);

2. Faction relations
Completing battles for the party's faction raises your relations with that faction;

3. Leading a party
When faction relations improve enough (from point #2), eventually you are allowed to lead a party. As per Orion's suggestion (if I have read it properly), you will have to carry out the orders of the faction leaders, or else your men will kill you;

4. Desertion
The ability to desert the group by escaping during a battle, with the subsequent risk of being caught in the act of escaping - by your party, or the enemy party;

5. Potential Consequences of Escape
Potential consequences (death, recapture, ransom, freedom) may occur based on a number of variables (faction relations, charisma);

6. Potential Consequences of Defeat
When your party is defeated in battle by an enemy, the personal consequences may be the same as point #5;

7. Your character level
Your character level and weapon skills may influence the kind of group you are conscripted into (e.g., if you are more skilled in crossbow, then it is more likely that you will be equipped with a crossbow and hence expected to function as a crossbowman).

In time, you gain your freedom one way or another - even if that freedom is in death (unless you consider that dying as a slave, which I suppose you will just have to live with. Or not, as the case may be).

Other things to consider:
While passive:
Should your relations with the factions that your party attack change?
Should you be able to inflict damage on your party with a bow?

(Orion - under command of crack commander, forced to carry out orders or your men kill you)

Originally during the search I read Orion's idea as though he had the assumption that you would be leading a party, since he had described it as "your men". However, "you would see orders show up on the side of your screen from time to time" could be seen as referring to the orders you get during a battle, hence implying that you are in a party lead by another.

Sounds good. The only thing i dont like is that unless you are party leader then travelling the world map is gona be soooo boring. Unless maybe you can speed time up.

Well if the party you in actually travels to set goals, for instance "Attack this group" "Join this fight" and actually travels to compleate them rather than "patrol" aimlessly, it wont be much diffent to what you do yourself.

If you become part of a prisoner train at a certain spot you could spawn a group faster than your own near you to attack and try and free the captives.

Prehaps your hired into a merchant caravan party, and a similar thing could happen.

If your sent to attack somone, spawn a special party much like a merchant mission, that your party travels to. the group could be anything "Vaegir_War_Band" "Troublesome Pirates" or whatever.

And whos to say that you wont get attacked by the regular guys on the map on the way to your target. thus cutting your mission short.

And what happens if your Leader dosent buy some meat before he sets out? you go hungry, you get weak through lack of food. Prehaps the other men in your group talk of desertion, but they need somone to lead the desertion... will you do it? You desert the Swadian party with a small group of Crossbowmen, liked by nither side your practicly a bandit.

If the partys your in have goals and special events tagged onto them theres no reason why this cant be as fun as your own party. If not more due to the much more uncontoled game your playing
