An option with own created parties lead by a family member or companion should be more. Like hunt bandits, keep roads safe. Look for hideouts and clear them.
As soon as one is a vassal and create extra parties. Other lords take them to their army and they feel abit pointless.

True they are literally always in friendly armys and get captured after a few days.
