Parties earning excess gold - bug or feature?

So, I want to create an army. I create two parties out of my companions and give them some of my troops. Then I invite them to an army and they join it on the spot. The thing is, now I'm earning 10k per day instead of the usual 3k, because the two parties I created earn 4k "Excess gold" every single day, even though the only thing that changed, is that now we are an army of three parties, instead of a single party. (Somehow I'm still giving them food aid, because their troops are apparently starving while swimming in all that sweet excess gold.)

The point is, it doesn't make any sense to triple your earnings by nominal changes to the party structure.

when your parties fight and win they earn money (loot just like you), obviously fighting looters isn't nearly as profitable as fighting armies with you or taking castles hence why they earn that much when gathered.

Pretty sure it is a feature and one that makes sense. I mean they are taking loot just like you do when you fight, so it only makes sense that whatever they earn minus expenses comes back to you as their lord.

Well, these guy are not looting on their own. They are in MY army just as they were before they had their own party. We are attacking the same enemy parties as an army, so it doesn't make sense that suddenly we get more loot as an army of 3x100 parties than we would get as a single party of 300 troops.

One of the devs explained to me that they pay 20% of the gold they have above 10k base (that's the amount they always have to maintain their party).
If they get 10k loot you will get 2k first day then less next day then less another day up to the point where they're again on the base 10k.
This however work both ways cause if they fight with heavy losses and get low loot they will take more gold from You to get back to 10k base.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. So from where exactly are they getting that extra loot if the are moving with my army all the time?

The problem is that this feels like a clear exploit: you should always move as an army instead of a single party simply to earn 3x more daily income.

If You won any battle in previous day's they looted items and gold. Same as You and that gold is used to pay You. When they go to the city they will sell loot and prisoners and pay You the gold.
I calculated this many times and found no room to exploit it. Even if they move with You you need to fight a lot and if You don't visit cities they will give You less money.
My 3 companions give me 3,5k daily in times of war without the need to have them in the army. In times of peace (short periods but happens) they give me a lot less.

Edit:
One more thing. It takes them a lot of time to build skills and strong enough party to earn money.

That's because they each individually get to loot, you really think theres only a few pitchforks and boots you see after the battle is over? If you have 3 parties searching the battlefield for loot afterwards they're bound to find more loot than 1 party.

That's not very sound thinking. You think there is a difference between 3 groups of 100 troops searching vs one group of 300 troops? If there is, it is not threefold...

Basically, the excess gold they're earning is somewhat the same gold you'd be earning if you grabbed literally everything, grabbed all prisoners, and then sold all prisoners. Except, if you're leading your single party, you won't be able to capture as many prisoners, I presume.
