Paleolithic: Fight for the Homo Genus. RELEASED.

The setting may be a bit early for it, but it's thought that some early peoples may have ridden reindeer in order to keep up with the herds.
Yoshiboy's got a reindeer model you could borrow if you need it. It would probably need re-rigging for 0.808 though.

Bone Spear

It's a whopping 1228 polygons for something that basic.
I'm none too happy about the width of the head as well.

Does anyone remenber 'The 13th warrior' movie? The wendol would make good skins for this mod, their weapons are very good too.

Another point, what would we do with prisioners? eat them? rape them? what?

Yup
As silly as it may be, I love that film. I think it's very loosely based on picts though, so possibly not a great source of inspiration.

As for prisoners, that's a good question. I think the concepts of both surrender and prioners would be unknown at the time, but as M&B lacks a "runaway!!!" animation I'd lean towards having any prisoners escape and either be removed completely or added to the map as a new party.

added some details (still very low-poly):

How about being able to pick up randomly spawned items like wooden sticks and stones while battle?

The downside is, we - unfortunately - wouldn't be able to have hills then.

Very awesome! The detail is now fantastic...the random spawn thing is a great idea, as well.

Wow, nice stuff you two have. About the random spawn thing, I am not completely sure about this, but isn't Southern Germany (not including Alps) generally flat anyway?

Very nice object and ideas. It's the first time I see a "prehistorical game".

I never saw the film, but the book is exelent, and I agree it could be a good source of inspiration.

Ho ! I had information about the end of Neanderthal. It seems that Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal lived a too long time together to make Cro-Magnon have hunted down Neanderthal to extinction. It is more the unability of Neanderthal to adapt or survive wich make them to completly die. But, genocide or unability are only theories...

not really. maybe...erh..... uhh..... maybe you could pick... central france?

Pic from Understanding Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, 7th Ed. (Turnbaugh, et al, 1999, 317). Upper Paleolithic refers to 40,000 y.a. to (roughly) 5,500 y.a. . The mod setting is middle paleolithic, but there is no easily available, comparable information for middle. It also takes place in the "last interglaicial period", meaning the setting should not be all snow. The "last glacial period" begin until about 75,000 y.a.

I know it may be being a little too picky but the stone used on the weapons models is too coarse, it should be of very fine texture such as flint, basalt, or obsidion. This is a knapping technieque too late but a good example of usable stone,

Which weapon models are you talking bout?

Oh yeah, Highlander's. ;D

Highlander, that's a bit too little rope, afaik it takes lots of rope to hold a heavy stone and a stick together.

Well, even with the strongest possible rope at that time, I don't think 1 loop was enough to hold an axehead in place.

Considering that they weren't the masters of weaving, and if they used natural substitutes (sinew, vine, etc) they wouldn't really be strong enough to hold a heavy rock right? Well, probably the sinew.

You'd be surprised at how strong even thin natural rope can be. The only real problem would be it fraying on contact with the rock.

"Natural Rope" meaning vines? Unless the vines were thick enough, I think they'd snap as soon as you tighten the knot made on the sharp rock you use for a blade.

You'd also be surprised at how strong plants are. Even bindweed can be used as decent rope, as long as you get it fresh.
