Padded cloth woes

Yes, but, in his conversation, how would you say it. bring me better amour than a padded cloth?

well, you could get something, while normal, 'better', that's rusty or something, which has less protection than a padded cloth. you could say, 'somethign with protection better than +7', but that' isn't very RPish

"Bring me anything that provides ample protection to my body area, like that of the padded cloth or better."

...you know, that sounded good in my head?

Or a simple 'I need combat armour'.  Clearly, this is not clothes or robes etc, but actual armour for fighting.  Like... padded cloth or better?

Yeah, the combat armour one is good but you shouldn't be able to give him something he cannot equip like a strength 8 requirement cos Marnid is a weak jessie!!!

Why not?
He could still go along the lines of "Now, that's an impressive piece of armor indeed. You don't expect me to be able to wear it, yet, do you? Still, I gave my word, so here we go."  Rp'fied of course. Anything would be better than the retarded little item hunt that's going on now. Oh well, not a dealbreaker by any means, but I hope someone even reads this.

Because he wants the armour so he won't get instantly slaughtered like a commoner (practically his words ) so he needs something to wear not to look at and go "Oooh that's pretty" but is too heavy for him to lift.

True, that's what he should tell you, too.
Wether the player actually gives him something better or acts like a retard and lets him be slaughtered could very much fall under freeform gameplay, though.
Nevermind, I'm sure there are better solutions.

The better solution is to give him stats that represent where a character should be at level 6.  Except for his weapon proficiencies, which are up over the 60 mark, his stats are LOWER than any level 1 character BEFORE they get to the stat distribution scheme.  That's the major reason Marnid and Borcha suck so much.

I think Armagan gave them "level 0" stats the way he would with a non-hero NPC, where the game automatically gives them skills based on their level (which is an incredibly annoying feature for modders who want non-generic troops).

Padded cloth is the finest armor in the world. It does not slow you down like some stupid plate mail. It does not clank like a mobile hardware store. It never rusts. It looks so crappy that noone bothers to steal it. It's easily smuggled through metal detectors. It does not stand out in a crowd needlessly, yet it does not offend the eyes of a noble. It makes you invisible in mud, sewers and on fresh graveyard soil. It emanates earthly, homely scents. Flexible, yet protective. Sturdy, but not cumbersome. Your true friend that never lets you down.

There is even an old English song about it:

"Through the rain
and mud (or both),
when you march -
- wear padded cloth!

In the work,
in times of sloth,
don't forget
your padded cloth,

Never clean it
(yes, I mean it),
when your life's no longer worth

when an arrow
tastes your marrow,
die in style - in padded cloth!"

(Well, maybe it was just a sales pitch of that Zendar merchant...)

convincing enough. lol

Maybe they should change it so 'padded cloth' is some kind of rare, quasi-magical armour?  He's not asking for equipment: he wants you to go on a quest!

Again, having a certain way of getting it would remove many of the problems (ie, finish training), but it's still logically stupid that this guy says 'I was x exact armour, no not that way better armour, this one on my list here.  I'm a collector'.

Speaking of the new padded cloth, does it look familiar to anyone? I could swear I've seen it before.
