Over-reaction in Germany?

I can sorta see where they are coming from, but its a silly idea.

That is retarded.

If anything Paintball would reduce the risk of school shootings because it gives people who may be prone to that sort of thing a relatively safe place to release their pent up rage.

I mean, what next? Ban boxing because it encourages fighting?

That would be the next logical step, yes. Or ban soccer because many more people have been injured because of hooligans than by school shootings.

Let's all start using chop sticks like Asians because kitchen knives symbolize violence... See where I'm going with this? Hardly anything new.

Invading Poland usually...

Oh Archonsod you and your dark humour...

Honeslty? Total overreaction. If anyone remembers the Dawson College shootings in Montreal, we didn't ban paintball afterwards...it doesn't make sense.

I'm not surprised. Their politicians. When they don't know how to solve a problem they just do something random that could resemble a reasonable idea if they turned of the lights.

Perhaps if you did there wouldn't be any more shootings! Just kidding :D.

It is a silly idea I think, I mean why not just get to the heart of the problem and put more severe limits on gun ownership like we have in the UK. Guns offer a relatively easy way to commit murder (you don't put yourself in immediate danger as you would with your fists or a knife etc, and you don't experience the fear, pain and physical damage as intensively because you are at a distance from the person), so there will always be the risk that these things happen where people know they can obtain a gun with relative ease.

It's just stupid. Paintball and violent videogames are more often a means, a way to let out your anger and angst on other things than people. By banning them, you're banning a medium through which people can let out their rage. All in all, it'll make casual gamers more pissed off, and could possibly up the risk of people doing this. Some people just have problems, and the kind of person who does school shootings is not a normal person. There's only a relatively small percentage of people that can get influenced by a video game or violent sport. However, exposing kids too early to this when they're still learning about simple life and such (i.e: kids before adolescence), then I do agree: stop them from getting the damn games.

Oh, and as Dan said, tighter rules regarding gun possession. Can't do any harm.

PS: In France, shops don't give a **** about selling an 18+ game to a minor. They don't give a flying ****. And look, there aren't that many school shootings here (well, there was one last year, but still, he only shot a teacher, I think :D)

Well that's dumb.

I've got a somewhat relevant anecdote here. I went to Germany with my dad in 2004 (I was 14 at the time), and one day we went into a video store that sold and rented video games and movies. I went over to the video game area and started looking at the games, particularly the shooter games and suchlike. In the US, I could look at the boxes with no issues whatsoever, since after all, it's just the boxes. But then, the store clerk comes up to me and tells me I can't look at them because I was too young.

Germany's really up-tight about violence and whatnot.

That's one of the reasons.

But it's more about decisions that don't hurt certain economical branches instead of not being able to find a solution. And about cheaper solutions, of course.

However, the decisions tend to be supported by most older people who have no ****ing clue about the topic, but especially young pupils strongly disagree with the Bundesrat in this area. Obviously.

This is not an over-reaction! If these necessary precautions were not taken, Germany will once again, invade Europe!

A recent statistic proves that 99% of paintball players will buy a gun and shoot someone.

You are all just ignorant.

Isn't this the way of the world today? Bird/swine flu, anyone? There once was a time when we had nothing to fear but fear itself, when those who gave up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserved neither liberty nor safety. These days are behind us. Today we choose to live under the Staatssicherheit.

Heh, I read this a few days ago. What I find hilarious is that they're banning it, but victims are 'calling for more, like banning guns'.

Wait, what?! They haven't even banned guns but they're banning paintball? The ****?
