At last. I really want the Ottoman faction in the next major update. I cannot imagine the 1800's without the Ottoman Empire.

I want it too but it's hardly the most imporant area at the moment. Ottomans are my favorite subject in history but they can hardly be described as important during this era.

Maybe not as much in this era but they were still a major power regardless. Maybe not in Europe but certainly still a player.

Oh they certainly were still a major power. It's just that they weren't involved in the Napoleonic Wars except for the Egypt campaign, and therefore not really important for this mod though. Top priority concenring nations should be completing the existing ones and adding the Spaniards and Portugese. The Ottomans could be a nice treat for later, when all is finished.

The fractured and lethargic performance of the pashas squabbling with each other would be easy enough to simulate with Warband's default campaign AI, but I wonder how battles will be. Historically their large levies usually gave one hearty charge and then routed when they failed to break through, and it fell to the Jannisaries to rally as many as they could before the entire battle was lost, and their massive cavalry contingents lacked the shock to break square formations... presently in game, swords beat bayonets, cavalry of any kind can break any formation, there are no squares, and poor morale can not be assigned to specific troop types.

The historical paper-tiger of 1806-1811 will translate into a juggernaut ingame. Good for Turkish players, , no so good for reenactment.

I'd say England, France, Austria, Prussia and Russia were the powers of the era. Ottomans had succumbed to corruption, dated warfare and incompetent leadership and were thus  considered "the sick man of Europe".

The cool thing they would add is some variation in terms of graphical style and type of troops! I'd try to make get to have larger armies but of poor quality Bluehawk. I'm not sure if the engine give specific nations larger armies though.

Every country had and has corruption in the system. To say that is a bit......bit much. And secondly, by England, I think you mean Britain..... England was merely a part of a bigger nation ^^

I'm well aware that England isn't the proper name but neither is Ottomans. Just being lazy and I'm sorry for it.

The corruption differed back then as it does right now. I'm not expert on the Ottoman Empire during this era but everything I read suggests they were inefficient in everything they did. Partly due to corruption, partly due to outdated methods and changing the areas of administration that made them efficient during the 16th century.

it wasn't corruption (which has always been around everywhere), but rather the fact that,
the Ottomans, Mughals & Qin where not capitalist colonial powers,
and therefore bore the brunt of political and economic upheavals,
which where cast upon them by their Western rivals

Not that I'm not looking forward to new factions, but perhaps we should wait till all of the current ones in the alpha are actually finished, before we actually start adding new ones.

The modernized Nizam-ı Cedid army beat Napoleon in Egypt though, just sayin'.

Let me try to understand you. Corruption has been around everywhere and is always the same? The west cast the upheavals towards the east? When did the west become capitalist colonial powers in your opinion? The decline of mentioned states mostly is a result of what went on in the western parts of Europe?  Please elaborate.

The modernized Nizam-ı Cedid army beat Napoleon in Egypt though, just sayin'.
You referring to the Battle of Abukir?

Achcchctually, if docm's version of battle morale works even remotely the way I think it does, that should be possible. I believe there's a system like that already where recruits turn tail after the first cannon shot. Even in native, battle morale is decided by a combination of party morale and troop level.

Based on the many tests I've done with the AI, docm wouldn't have to give the ottomans much of morale penalty for them to be at a severe disadvantage in battle.

Need Denmark-Norway and Sweden, then Spain and Portugal before the Ottoman Empire.

Agreed, those countries should be prioritized instead of just Ottoman empire.
