order your men to fight without you

Ive been wondering how the "order your men to fight without you" choice works because ill have me and my friends totaling like 700 soldiers and i click that... i end up losing 70 guys to the enemies 2. but then ill have a similar troop number situation and wipe out 25 of em to a similar number of mine and i take the town after a few clicks. i don't understand how the game calculates the results. and that what i want to know. i couldn't find anything on this after searching Google and typing in some keywords on the forum search. thanks in advance.

I'm that sure how it works but I can tell you this I know

-Tactics skill affects the outcome
-Tier of troops affects the outcome
-The game has inbuilt bias for certain units (eg spearmen do slightly better in auto-calc against calvary) I'm not sure of the complete list though

Basically, without you on the field, your men degenerate into slack-jawed morons.
