Recruit
Hi I want to share some of my opinions about the new order of Battle system and also see how others feel about them. I think that the system is really useful for organizing troops from multiple parties but by putting away the old system of direct assignment it is more difficult for me to organize troops in my party, especially when I want to create specific squads like troops able to brace spears or shock troops wielding two-handed weapons. Here are my suggestions:

1. Put back the old system of direct assignment
which I think wouldn't collide with the new order of battle system.

2. Add new preferences, especially:
a) spear bracing preference for anti-cav formations
b) two-handed / high damage preference for shock troops formations
c) level preference for elite squads or the opposite low level squads for troops to level up

3. Make the preferences more strict because if I create for example a group I. with shield preference and group II. with non preference to separate the shield user a troops without shields, both groups are still getting mixed.

I would like to know if you also have ani ideas that would make the new system even better so please let me now .

Put back the old system of direct assignment
Having the old system of troop assignment would conflict with the Idea of more Strict Groupings. There were a total of 8 separate classes that modders could use back when the old formations were available which would automatically fill up the slots so unless your going to go through every troop to assign their formation number then bring back the old formations is a really bad idea.

On the other hand the idea of more strict assignments is something I can get behind. At the moment separating Polearms from Shields is difficult as you have work out what percentage of your troops are one or the other and even then it's not perfect. For example if I wanted to separate all units with a Pike for example into one formation but had 10 or 20 other troops with spears that also have shields the game would split them in the formation I want for Pikes. In addition to this Idea we need to have the troops actually link into the formations we want them in when they spawn mid battle. I have observed frequently that if the Infantry ranks are split then the new troops always join the first formation and not the formation that you have a preference assigned to for that troop.

I very much support this as well, specifically:

"1. Put back the old system of direct assignment which I think wouldn't collide with the new order of battle system."

This could co-exist with the current troop sorting, perhaps something like the current "General sorting" and a new "Custom sorting/Detailed sorting" when deploying troops before battle.

The preference-system and the weighting of how strictly preferences are enforced is certainly in need of an overhaul. I went over some examples of more preferences in my first post too among some other feedback and suggestions. Including crossbow / bow preferences for ranged groups and spear / lance preferences for mounted groups to further specialise our formations. While i don't believe the party screen assignments will make a comeback, there is options to have similar customisation options within the OoB deployment screen. One example from my mentioned post would be the "Manage Troops" window we know from raiding hideouts. It allows pinpoint accurate assignment of specific numbers and specific types of units. Or another example from one of my later posts would be the "Choose [Unit type]" window where you select what units to bring in the custom battle. Both of these are examples of UI which already exist ingame and could be utilised to fix the deployment phase by giving the player an optional precision control UI.
