Only a Few People in a Scene?

Knight at Arms
I'm modding in new characters for the Zendar Center, and I opened up the unofficial editor to add people. The first time I did it, I added five people, saved it, ran the game, and only two were there. Now when I open it again, only those two are saved (one is the Vaegir Knight, a character already in the game, obviously), and when I add more people, I can't save the file.

So, assuming this isn't an issue with the Editor (which is why it isn't posted in the Unofficial Editing Tools forum), is there, for some reason, a cap on the number of NPCs that can be in a non-battle scene? Or maybe it's only so many items (I have the place loaded up with items, and my fps is bad as it is, but I doubt the editor could detect that) in a scene?
Please help.

I don't think there's a limit set on the number of people per scene, but if there is, I would assume it would be 32 since you can number entry points up to that many.

Sounds like it might actually be a problem related to the Unofficial Editor; Effidian has stated it isn't yet compatible with version .711. People have modified some things successfully in .711 with it, but a lot isn't working properly.
He's working on a new version though; I'd wait for it.

I once tried inserting a whole bunch of folks in one scene. Started having trouble only after the first 15. The extra folks would show up, but they wouldn't go to their assigned entry spot.

Perhaps it has to do with some terrain generator setting a limit?

(Janus, this might be a dumb question, but are you sure you remembered to assign them to different entry points?)

You mean Stonewall382? He mentioned the Unofficial Editor wouldn't allow him to save and that the only ones that showed up were standard troops, not new ones, so I'm guessing that's the problem.

Ah, thanks guys for the replies. Turns out, all I had to do was threaten the program with quitting, and it allowed me to save.

I was able to add two more NPCs, which brings me to three ingame NPCs, and one NPC I've made and used through all my modding, my lovable stablehand Zel.

I'm going to try adding in one of my own characters, Alrek the Blacksmith, and a guard or two to stand atop the guard towers of Zendar.

For some reason, it always seems to go a little awry at around tenish people in the scene. I'll see if I can pass that barrier now.

As a side note: The new towers and castle stuff Armagan put in are awesome!!!
Also, with the new way passages work, it's now possible to, for instance, make the character go from the tavern to zendar center, but to use a different entry point, so that it seems more realistic (it's too hard to explain technically, but really easy to understand if you use it).
Great touches Armagan! *thumbs up*

Cool, good luck with it. And yeah, the new scene props are very nice indeed.

In other words, pointing the passage to a new entry point outside the tavern, rather than having it dump you in the default entry point for the town center which you normally always go to? Sounds like a nice touch.

Had a weird situation recently when I mistakenly pointed a passage to an entry point in my own scene and, zoot, I found myself right back in the scene ... looking at myself as another figure. Very eerie having a conversation with yourself.

Lol!

I used that method (Janus has how it works spot on, btw) to transfer my guy from one side of the iron...door (it's six in the morning here--what's that word?) to the other. Problem was, I couldn't get back.

Also, Janus, you probably already know this, but for anyone who doesn't: you can move that default entry position around in the edit mode.

Khalid: definitely sounds strange; wouldn't have expected it would do that.

Yeah, but you'll just be switching it to a new spot for everything to point to. Using new entry points for different passages to link to sounds like a nice touch.

Entry points I've pretty well got the hang of; I've added, moved/rotated, and numbered entry points in a new scene for 4-team battles, and linked them up to the positions for the different teams. Works like a charm, and 25 people (4 teams of 6 + the observer) all end up at their own entry point.
Passages on the other hand, I have never used, so they're an unknown factor to me.

 Janus' post count is Satan...

Anyhoo, what do you mean you linked the points together? How do you do that, and what difference does it make?

Okay, now it's 6:40 AM here, and I HAVE to go to bed. Thanks for the help Janus and Khalid--all I have left to do for right now is edit the faces of my new characters, and I'll be good to go on my Zendar, somewhat.

Oh yeah--another tip: You can edit faces ingame (talk to the person, ask them about themselves, go to "edit face"), but if you edit more than one person (so far this is true of Zendar center and the tavern), only the last person to be edited retains the edited face--EVERYONE else (including the people in the tavern, if you edit someone in the center, or vice versa if you're editing someone in the tavern) goes back to their default face. I don't know how far reaching this effect is, so maybe it's only one edited person on the entire map.
I hope that with the editor, I can change the faces of many characters, and have them all stay. I'll check this tomorrow probably.

I just meant I moved the entry points to the place for each team to start, and changed the (new) arena mission to place members of team 1 at entry points 0-5, team 2 at 6-11, team 3 at 12-17, and team 4 at 18-23. The observer is entry 31. Just standard stuff in the files really, nothing special.
I just find it strange that it places all those people on the scene using the mission setup, but adding regular people to show up at different entry points in a non-combat scene is seeming to be limited for you. The scenes are laid out the same for combat and non-combat scenes, the only difference is how the people are placed on the scene.

Well, a word of warning... It is a bug that it allows you to save while quitting, but not normally. If it isn't allowing you to save normally that means that you got errors loading the files and saving will screw up something.
