A possible solution to stop so much spawn killing would be to give people enough starting gold to buy a hunter or coursier, so they can outrun the spawners or at least have a chance to.

The problem is that, under this unfair new system, the privileged just become more and more privileged whereas the poor become poorer. If you lack a horse, you're bound to get randomed by the killhungry "privileged" who became privileged precisely by killing random unarmed newcomers. If the guy catches you out in the open, you can't run, you can't hide, and you can't defend yourself. You're just in for another long hike across the map, whereas the killer gets a few hundred gold for his "trouble". A man on foot is always more vulnerable than a man on horse.

Good horses should always be for the privileged, but the crappy sumpter horses (which were quite useless in combat) were simply meant as a means of transportation, and they filled in that role perfectly.

As it has been pointed out, there are now entire gangs of spawnkillers specialized in hanging around at the spawn points and killing folks.

This may sound a bit harsh, but I'd advocate simply eliminating the gold reward for killing people. That's just an incentive for people to RP serial killers, since it's the only viable way to get money.

Any server with that setting is 'wrong'.



That is the default setting - it says 'starting gold 0' and max players is 32 ect. It is just a 'default / base'

Those are the settings the mod is designed to be played with.

If a server changes the settings, they should expect odd results - such as people spawn-camping.

It's hardly the mod's fault that people want to play with unsupported settings.

Why were sumpters removed in the first place? The game was just too fun when you had a chance of getting anywhere without getting random killed?  People complained that they got killed trying to get weapons so you solved the problem by not giving them the chance to get anywhere but one of the spawnpoints/free kill zones.  With this new system 1 guy on a horse can easily catch and kill 10 guys who just want to play the ****ing mod.  The horses have to come back.
 
I agree.  We need horses.  Plus with that new horse kill system it will get rid of 50 sumpter horses at the bottom of red ladder just sitting there.  Keep the good horses expensive b ut atleast give sumpters for transport.

At least the sumpter horses in v1 allowed you to get from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time and with a reasonable degree of safety, but right now, you're pretty much screwed.

Furthermore, the only available entry-level horse, the saddle horse, costs 1000 gold -- which means that you're pretty much stuck with white base gear unless you want to be legging it all over the place.

I really hope this could be addressed, if only by making an affordable (say 500 gold?) sumpter horse available.

I just don't feel like playing a game whose main goal is walking unarmed for minutes and getting killed in the process.

Do you spend a lot of time there, Laszlo? People kick you when you stand there trying to get gold, and then they force you into fist fights with them.
 
Aye ive had to fight my way out of a few scruffs.
Even after the chests you have to traverse the plains. Usually ending in some twat lancing you for fun.
 
Don't blame the mod because of the people you choose to play with.. Find a good server and none of these issues happen. Most servers operate happily and with ease because its occupants choose to cooperate and play fairly.
 
You blame the mod for encouraging such behavior.  From the spawnkiller's point of view it makes total sense to camp around the new spawn areas.  Nobody can fight back and they don't have a horse to flee.  I ask again is there any real reason the sumpters were removed?

Sumpter horses were a large contributor to massive server resource issues that make this mod very hard to host. Sumpter horses are unsustainable until an efficient horse removal script is in place.

Spawn killing itself doesn't make any sense if the proper server settings are used, in which case you do not receive gold for killing.

 
I would like to point out that the horse removal script isn't perfect: there need to be areas where horse can be stabled without the threat of them dieing for bad feed, or heart attacks.

make barns negate the horse removal script, and help provide security for the horse so they don't get nicked. Ideally, you could stable a horse infinitely without the threat of it dieing or being stolen, whereas currently i'm afraid to get off.

And we need some good US servers. Everywhere i get like 140 ping.

Mate, I just said that there is not an efficient horse removal script in place. Obviously it would be wonderful if we could do X and Y but this is just a mod and it has limitations.

I was spawnkilled twice in a row by caliph the pedophile.  I wanted to join red and in order to do that, you must put on a red shirt.  Thats 500.  A dumb saddlehorse costs 1000.  I had to walk 2 thirds of the way there, get killed.  Then spawn in the forest again, go to the village, and caliph stalked me there and killed me.  I kindly ask that you reduce the cost of saddlehorses to 500.  Or put sumpters in for 500.  For the love of freakin' god.  Caliph had a horse btw, so he killed everyone spawning in the forest.
 
It seems that the only people who have horses are either griefers, people who jacked them, or white shirts

At least make the sumpter horse 500 or the saddle horse 750
 
What does sneaking around to the mines have to do with "in your head RP"?

It's easier to sneak to Green Castle than it is to sneak to the mines, incidentally. Not that sneaking is easy in any sense of the word, since it is broad daylight and you're in a plain.
