My first play will be as a factionless leader of barbarian horde, pillaging and burning every village on my way, regardless of the location, recruiting war prisoners I deemed brave enough to fight on my sides, until a pissed of local lord gather a bigger army than mine and crushes me on the battlefield. I'll not surrender though, and I'll die with a smile on my bloody face. Live fast, die hard, as every warrior should.

Then I'll start playing seriously and I'll probably sides with Battania or Vlandia first.

Minor factions won't be joinable unfortunately, they act like independent houses/clans and since the player starts within his own house he can't join another, only pledge his house to one of the major factions or become a monarch on his own right

The good thing, is modding can probably fix that issue, and add quest-lines for minor factions and such .
