One Handed Polearms and Jousting

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like every 1h polearm in the game can be used for jousting.

I recently experimented with jousting with an iron staff... my oh my. It's like having a WAY short jousting lance. It's so much fun!

I don't think this effect was intentional though...

you can also use mauls and warhammers for jousting

if i recall correctly i used to joust the nobleman with my maul

..or was it polehammer

ok, i take that back, you can do that with the staff. i even got a screenshot

no you cannot joust with a maul because it is a twohanded weapon, not a polearm. it would look dumb getting couched lance damage with a voulge

i have been unsuccesful in couching the poleaxe, considering he holds its like a twohanded sword on horseback wather than a lance....

Edit: Changed the pic to a link

Also found that staffs are actually a onehanded weapon, and poleaxes are 2 handed

Therefore i must declare sir slavetrader a FIBBER! i guess i cant talk, i fib all the time

I have determined that any one-handed polearm can be couched. This is pretty silly, since it means that a) staffs can be couched, which they shouldn't, but b) two-handed pikes and the like can't be couched, which they should.

Yes, they should. And no, they shouldn't.
They are 2H for a reason: they are too big to be wielded in one hand! You can't wield them stable.

(real history warning!!!) the sarmatian heavy mounted warriors of roman times used to use a lance held with both hands (and no shield) so it wouldnt be completely odd to be able to couch 2 handed polearms!

I think great lance is the biggest weapon in the game, way bigger than those 2 handed polearms and IMO it should not be usable when no mounted (or horrible draw backs). Some of the 2 handed spears aren't too big to be used in one handed charge on horse with a shield. Well so I think (corrections anyone?).

Oh yes, without shields! I didn't think of that. But to couch it with only one hand (with shield) would be a too hard task.

Well, you can't hold a shield with a 2H weapon on horseback (or on foot for that matter) anyway, so if you were able to couch a 2H weapon, I don't think a shield would suddenly appear

.. I havent yet never succeed whit crouching or at least never had Crouch Dmg text ..

Repeated once again:

1 Buy a horse that has 9 or so Speed.

2 Buy a onehanded polearm.

3 when in battle, ride on flat ground or downhill. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE ****ING ATTACK BUTTON!!! YOU DON'T NEED IT!!!

4 When in full gallop, you should see your character lower his spear/lance/whatever so that it is vertical.

5 Ride at some poor enemy so that the lance tip hits him.

EDIT: I meant horizontal

Repeated once again:

1 Buy a horse that has speed of 8 or above. The more, the faster you couch the weapon

2 Buy a onehanded polearm.

3 When your speed is 8+, the polearm is 'couched': turned into vertical position. You do aim the lance-tip by turning your horse (rough aim) and by changing view direction (fine-tuning).

4 The enemy must be on the right side of you, so that the lance hits: Do not press attack button. Do not thrust the lance. Do not. You want to ram the lance into the hapless victim.

Additional hint: While it is possible to hit someone while doing wild turning maneuvres, I suggest you practise first just by charging straight, gaining some distance and charging again. If you want to train, start a new merchant character, sell the most you have, buy a polearm (jousting lance would do fine), and hunt river pirates for target practice.
