One handed control of two handed weapons

While it is possible to cut with a well-balanced two-handed sword with one hand, the result should be much slower strike (you can't accelerate so well) and MUCH less damage (for obvious reasons). Bastard sword, for example, was a transition between 1H and 2H sword and could be used in both ways (first, only one-handed swords existed. the name "bastard" comes from the fact that the warrior wielding a bastard sword cannot have shield that would depict his family crest).

I know it's a game simplification, but these weapons should not be allowed to be used on horseback. They would be too unwieldy and the risk of losing the weapon on impact would be too great. This is the only very unrealistic element of the game.

Usually you swing the weapon in a downward angle when dealing with infantry, so it is initially very easy to swing, bringing it back to the normal position is the hard bit.

I liked the system in Arcanum. Weapons would have a strength requirement to be wielded two-handed effectively, and a higher requirement to be wielded one-handed. If you didn't meet the requirement, you'd suffer attack penalties.

Actually it isn't about that you can't carry it for it's too heavy. It is about balancing of the sword. They weren't meant to be wielded 1-handedly.
