So I spilled water on my laptop about a week ago. I took it apart completely and let it sit out to dry for a week. I just re-assembled it and when I put in the battery, it turns on by itself and the fan spins madly but the hard drive has no activity. After about 10 seconds it shuts off.

Is my laptop ****ed?

Generally, if you spilled water on a electronic device, it is ****ed by default. I'll leave it to the more technically experienced folk to pass the verdict, though.

I spilled water on my old laptop and after that it would blue screen every few minutes. After a system restore it was fine.

Did you pull the electricity the moment the water hit?

I wasn't thinking clearly due to inebriation, and I did not.

It also depends if it's a solid state hard drive.

It's a hard disk drive.

No, that's not the case at all. Electronic devices are (commonly) only damaged by water if there's a current flowing through the circuit at the time. For example, my dad dropped his Blackberry (turned off) into the bath. He put it into a bag of rice for 2 days, and it was fine.
