I do like the fact that recruits start with a shield now, i mean it seems a little OP to have a giant shield for such a low tier unit xD like a dude in cloth armour with this giant high end shield lol, but good move considering they are one of the more expensive low tier inf.

Meanwhile Sturgian Warrior still have to choose between spear or shield. For some reason Recruit gets javelins, shield and pila for the same price. Empire truly needed more buffs.

Please, for the love of everything, make the other "recruit" classes the same way. Being able to pick a spear and shield at the same time is huge.

The devs are wondering how they can address cav and archer being very powerful. A massive part of the answer is right here. The empire recruit is what we want from the 100g and below classes and the formula NEEDS to be copied for the other factions.

Everyone will say the recruit is very strong compared to other light classes. It isnt. Its right where it needs to be. Empire (and everyone else) needs a medium style infantry option. Instead of nerfing recruit please please just buff the other classes to the same tier.

Sturgian warrior is ok 2 hander though

But I still think it's stupid to choose between spear or shield. It's not like neither Warrior shield or spear are any good.
My guess is that they always want asymmetrical balance. Not every 100 gold unit should have spear, shield, sword. They want to evoke the image of Sturgia as the rush faction. With little regards for their own defense and helping their cowardly archer friends (reason no heavy archer on roster) they go for maximum damage. A common trope for Vikings (I know Sturgia is not Viking, but eh.) in fiction.

I'm still quite baffled why Recruit can get all the tools compared to other factions. Why give Recruit a free shield (and javs) but exclude other for these "basic needs".

If this is what they want they need to want something else because its bad for the game.

And I disagree about Sturgia as the rush faction. Their infantry are slower, yet tankier than most other heavy infantry. Their skirmish class can function as a front like utility class with a good shield and spear options. Their cav are heavier and slower than many counterparts. The only unit who doesnt fit the mold is their 100g warrior, which is more a design flaw than a design decision.

If there is a rush faction, its Aserai. Fastest cav in the game. Focus on fast units with light armor but high damage. Cheap troops that can afford to be aggressive without risking as much due to extra spawns.

I agree, Recruit change is the best "win" out of this patch.
Recruits are actually playable now, and serve their intended purpose as screening and/or flanking/support troops.

I'd love to see Recruits lose the Pila, though, to be honest. As much as I love Pila, it does not make sense to have both Javelins and the Pila, as I can't tell the troops to hold the pila and throw the jav...

Pila needs to go back to Legions, where it belongs.

If Sturgia Game Design would be like that, then their Heavy Inf Varyag needs to be way faster and cost 150 to take that into account.

+1 bring pila back to legionere instead of long spear its iconic and effective

Or infantry can actually use their melee weapons. If I want to play archer, I'll move my mouse lower.
If throwing weapon is the only counter to cav then it needs to be reworked.

Maybe its my old eyes but every unit looks basically the same - is that just me? Meaning i just loaded up Warband and some if its top mods and factions all have a very distinct look -these guys (BL) all look way too fancy and clean even at the lower tiers

Edit: Woops just saw this was Multiplayer
