I want to know if it would be possible to get all the character stats from my original M&B character transferred over to Warband.  I tried exporting a character I created in a hurry from Warband and then when I went to find the file where my exported character should be and the txt file isn't there.  Any help would be great.

Yes this is possible.

Go to:
C:\Program Files\Mount&Blade\CharExport

And kopie the char you wish the export then past it at:

Documents\Mount&Blade Warband\Characters

I've tested it and it works.

One random thing I thought I'd mention: Don't change your 1st 3 control groups. Infantry Archers Cavalry.  Just add to them, don't move them around.  The reason for this is that when you control other parties with yours, you end up with their archers following your heavy infantry and your archers running around with their cavalry etc.

Name them whatever you want but keep their function the same, leave them where they are and put custom groups at slot 4+.  Don't end up like me

I'm planning on moving all mine to the keypad for faster accessibility and to avoid confusing them with the F keys. I'm a little retarded like that.

I think the only reason I leave mine as they are is that I'm too retarded and would be trying to use the default keys for them after I moved them

I did that as well. It's a little awkward because it means you have to take your hand off the mouse to select groups, but I made the change so that my weapon keys can be 1-4 on the keyboard. This occurred to me after fussing around with my inventory order ("Do I want my sword to come out after my lance? What should come after my bow?"); trust me, the benefits of being able to instantly pull out whatever weapon you want far outweigh the cost of moving the group keys to an inaccessible location.

On this subject (sort of): is it possible to return to the 'old' setup (from the original) of orders? That is, F1-F12 directly giving an order. It's really anoying having to choose an order category and then an order. I feel like Warband didn't add any new orders besides Retreat (which I've never used, I play for keeps) so it'd be a tweak I'm interested in.

There's a retreat? Do they get off the map or does it do the retreat autocalc.  I always thought it was stupid to take casualties when you are across the map from the enemy and decide to bail.

Also. I didn't know you could hold F1 and set a hold spot without going there or using the map.  Is that new to warband or have I been missing out since the original. I can now point exactly where I want, but sadly it's line of sight and your men can break it. So don't plan on giving many orders standing right behind your guys, they'll always stay put.

Edit: What I orginally started this post for.

I'm too petty for that. I just make sure my sword is always in the second spot so the scabbard stays on my hip instead of being replaced by my hammer. But I don't carry a third weapon so it's always one or the other.  If I see a helmet, it's the hammer, it not, sword.

Yeah that was my thought when I learned about that functionallity as well. Can be a game changer when you don't have to leave a hotspot in the fight to move your archers accurately.

Every so often in the campaign, I would get this message saying that a lord has been indicted by treason. Usually they simply join another faction but so far I have had three instances where the it says the lord goes into exile outside of Calderia. When this happens, does it mean the lord is forever gone, and if so, will he eventually be replaced by another lord, or will this keep happening until there are eventually no lords left in the game?

The Lord is gone forever, and he will not be replaced. However, I think this only happens if a Lord is disliked by every other King, so he has nowhere to go. I doubt it would ever get rid of every single Lord, since there are plenty I've seen that never have left their original kingdom. Usually the ones you see bouncing around every so often are the ones that will eventually end up gone.

Okay, what exactly does the Stand Ground command do?

The stand your ground command let units spread out a bit but remain close enough to help eachother. They won't go rushing the enemy or chasing feeling ones. They will however move in anyway for about 10 - 20 steps to deffend or attack.

This command is not that handy to use when trying to stop a cavalry charge as they are often spread to thin.

But I would assume it's a decent enough strategy against infantry?

Depending on the composition of your army, it's usually recommended for infantry and archers to stand their ground. You can send additional commands to thicken the line; F2->F4 (iirc) is Stand Closer. Send that issue three or more times and the line will collapse into more of a solid block. That way, when the enemy cavalry decide to attack, they charge and end up running into and slowing down upon your heaviest troop lines. From there, their horses are usually cut out from under them and then, while getting up, are killed.

As for Infantry v. Infantry, it's usually best to have them stand in a longer, narrow line and let your archers soften them up. What I've always found useful is to dismount from my horse and give commands to have the infantry follow me; they'll follow me and stay huddled together and take out the enemy infantry.

I figure (But I'm no master of strategy) that this works best against withstanding archer fire since they are spread out and can still hold their shield up to block what ever does hit them. It should also help to fend of any infantry while blocking the arrows until you give the order to charge which should be made shortly after the infantry collide.

@ Bobsama Yup that is indeed a good tactic.

If I export my character (because of a corrupt game), will it import alone, with equipment, with equipment & inventory, or with everything including party? I managed to save a game and, as soon as I move or try to enter Reyvadin, the game crashes.

Keep the save game safe somewhere else, and reinstall?
But as above poster said, you lose the rest. You could edit in extra money to make up for it though...
