For companions, how much power draw do they need before they become better at using a bow than at using a crossbow? (In M&B Warband, Native)

Specifically, I am using Borcha as my path-finding/tracking/spotting companion. He currently has 105 archery and 145 crossbow proficiency, and STR 9. Due to the INT specialization this limits him to at most Power Draw 3 for the time being, and I am wondering if this enough to make archery worthwhile on the long run (assuming 150+ proficiency), compared to crossbows.

Power Draw adds 14% to each hit with the bow, until four levels beyond the bow’s minimum Power Draw requirement; for example, if the bow’s Power Draw requirement is 2, then a skill level of 2 will add 28%, while a skill level of 6 will add 84%, while any level beyond 6 will still add 84%. Finally, higher Power Draw makes powerful bows easier to use by improving your accuracy and the time you can keep your aim steady while the bow is drawn, though this cannot overcome having a low proficiency with bows. Maximum of 140% more damage.

It depends what how he’s using.
You’ll have to do some calculations to see if the bow is doing more damage than the crossbow (don’t forget damage added from types of arrows/bolts).

Edit- crossbows are an easy ranged weapon to use, they are accurate, allow you to hold aim for as long as you want and have high damage from the start, but can’t be increased through skills. Therefore it depends how specialised you want your companion. Using a crossbow will free up skill points for tracking etc.

Thanks for the tips. However, I'd expect more to be to it than pure damage.

E.g., are there differences in how the AI handles horseback shooting? It seems to me, that crossbows are not used much on horseback, even when elegible (light crossbow, hunting crossbow).

I'd also expect accuracy to make a big difference, though I can't really judge if accuracy is limited primarily by the AI*, by Power Draw, or by the weapon skill.

I assume that companions with crossbows outperform companions with bows and powerdraw 3 for sieges, but even then I'm not entirely sure, if this still holds if said companions have 150+ proficiency.

I'm sure that any reasonably trained archer outperforms crossbows in mounted combat, if only due to the limitation to light crossbows,
but I can't tell at what powerdraw/proficiency level this happens. Though given that khergit horse archers have Power Draw 3 and 110 archery according to the Wikia it seems entirely possible, that Power Draw 3 is sufficient.

* The AI doesn't correct well for moving targets - probably intentionally, as otherwise ranged AI characters would be quite overpowered.

Yes it certainly does depend on the situation.
For mounted combat; the bow certainly seems more versatile.
But on foot the crossbow is brilliant in all but rate of fire.
It depends what you want. If you want pure combat, bow is probably better as high power draw with a strong bow is deadly. But if you need some more skill points in party skills, then the crossbow is a better choice.
In the end it’s more about your army and which fights you pick that win the day. One companion won’t turn the tide of a battle.

So I finally got back into this game... Saw an update for it on steam, tried a new mod, fell back in love.

Now then my only problem is... I want tougher enemies!

I am hoping there is something that can be done for this in the settings. When I say I want tougher enemies I don't mean I want a campaign AI that recruits 100000 troops a minute, I don't mean I want massive hosts rolling through the map eating all the cheese.. I want my enemies to have more top tier troops.

I was sitting there in a castle waiting for the Sarranid (SP?) host to finally quit messing with their ladders and assault when a message popped up that another castle was under siege. My kingdom being new and thus small I decided to break this siege by riding out and then go wait for the other one. I was hoping for greatness. My best were in my party, I wanted them to have to put up a fight. What did I find when I hit the massive host? A dozen or so Mamlukes, maybe a dozen master archers, and about 500 peasants/tier 2 or 3 troops (no that is not an exaggeration).

The only joy to really be had in the entire battle(s) was fighting the Mamluks that I had accidentally made crazy dangerous.

As for personal experience, if you give enemy lords time to train their troops, and they have enough income they will have high tier troops. If most of the enemy troops were peasants that's most likely because they had just recruited their armies (having recovered from a previous defeat which wiped their forces out).

Yeah I know I was just hoping there was something somewhere that I could kinda force them into higher tiers.

Hard to give them time to build up when they are constantly fighting.

Natively, you cant do much beside raising AI/Campaign in settings.

Long Time I didnt run into ModuleSystem files, so I cant give you precise information right now but me too was thinking about a new WB adventure before Bannerlord come out, after doing some modifications.

An easy attempt could be done by raising Lord's trainer skill directly in files (troops.text).
You can play a bit with the ModuleSystem to identify the number to change or even make a proper micro-mod, probably easier

Another way is to make a harder-micro-mod which add a raw factor at troops generation/recruitment, or even directly at Lords wealth calculation.

But keep in mind that even little modification may have unexpected effect... :fruity:

Also, Diplomacy mod has a feature (activable with high mod setting in Camp Menu) to force Lords to rest in Town/Castle untill they have enough "strengh", but maybe not as strong you wish.

Hi

How i can add weapon to Tournament sets?
I really hate Lance + Shield in tournaments because player or AI oppoents nearly defenless in close range. Why not give him Dagger just like in Bow + Arrows set/
Ive rymenber in normal M&B Bow + Arrows never had dagger but Warband fix that. So ive wanted give Dagger to Lance + Shield.

mods like floris improve tournaments, or diplomacy 4.litdum.

Hi. I do not use minimap which can be opened by pressing backspace because I do not want to see where the enemy is. However, sometimes I can not order my troops to go the place I want since I can not see that place because of terrain. So my question is "is there way to mod the mini map in a way which mini map does not show the enemy location?".

I currently play diplomacy if that makes a difference to mod it between native and diplomacy.

Note: This is the thread which is most related this question I can find. If there is a more related thread than this, I am sorry.

Hi all, I'm new to M&B:W and just discovered this thread for asking questions about single player games. TIA

Ok, first up I'm playing native, and would like to know if there is any kind of bonus for giving fiefs back to their original owners? Because I've been saving a certain castle and connected village for a certain lord that I'd like to recruit to my faction, and wondered if I should bother, as said lord is very honourable and taking his sweet time to join me. I'll give it to someone else otherwise. And is there a list somewhere that shows what castles/cities the high renown lords start with when beginning a new game? All my save slots are in use, otherwise I'd just start a new game to see myself.

Also, when playing a lady, can your spouse defect to another faction after you've started your own kingdom? I actually made a thread to ask this question before realizing I could ask it here.

Thanks!

Hi, from all of my experiences with the game years ago and just recently there's nothing that tells me that the lords are especially happy holding "their own" fiefs. I could be wrong of course.

For your saves there's a simple trick that you might do, find a location of your savefiles in directory (on windows at least) and copy them elsewhere. I assume you don't use all 9 saves in active games and that at least some of them are used for archives.

On MAC Warband saved games are located under: users/Yourusername/Library/Application Support/MBWarband/Savegames.

What does you guys keep playing VC or Warband in general for that matter outside of multiplayer?
My character is pretty much built and have established a small kingdom (completely took over East Engle).

So i'm kind of wondering what's left for me in the game..
I wish to keep playing but i need some incentive/goal, beyond just taking over the whole map, which is just more of the same that i've already been doing in East Engle.

Anyone want to try and help me out?

try to solo big groups of bots (for example with pictish war paint (raises ath pd etc) and high agility athletics and PD and bow and arrows you can kite bots while running, jump backwards while knocking an arrow and then shoot (now try this on a big danish raider party)

I started my own kingdom: is there a way to check the status of my relationship with my vassals. I know you can check all the current relationship values (too cumbersome because its a list of all the lords in the game) and you can also look at the notes/lords tab and get a general value i.e cooperative/suspicious or no value at all. I want the actual number values of my vassals. There's got to be a file in the game that lists it... I hope.

I have an issue when I mod my game. Every time I play a mod the file gets corrupted. It always happens when I try to open mount and blade from my desktop or steam. It will tell me that mount and blade isn't installed and then when I tell it to install, it finds game file already on my computer. After that, the game will open, but whatever game I was playing will exhibit some game-breaking issues. The most common occurrence is that all of the facial setting on my character will go all the way down the sliders, npcs will often have invisible body parts and a similar face to mine, and all of the shops will lose their original merchandise, which is replaced with, leather boots, hat, etc., and have no money. Other times, the box that I click on to load the campaign just says "incorrect file type" and won't load.
