A very quick go at creating Pentos for the world map.

No! Hate to say it, but you're doing it wrong by over scoping your idea. You create individual assets first. Preferably you want to create a tile set, like a wall that can be duplicated, and then prop specifics, like an arching doorway and a gate. Give me a minute.

Edit: I pulled up some renders to show you what tile sets can achieve.

You can pull off entire environments with few good assets. Never model the entire map at once. You cant scale properly that way and you will have wasted assets.

To me that looks like a map icon, not the actual city scene. If that's the case there is no sense to do small details to the model.

Oh, excuse me then. I haven't slept in 24 hrs. Just trying to assist, and summon ideas to help.

You can't blame me for trying to warn him though, I have seen people try to make entire levels in a single scene and single pass. You could still do what he is doing with nice tile sets though and export as a single mesh. Just saying.

he's probably doing that anyway, i mean all the individual towers are identical.
Beyond duplication, tile sets could allow every tower to be made unique. There is a difference between duplication and tile sets beyond simple symmetry.

Im simply duplicating and then merging vertices and or edges when in place. We are taught to do as much as you can from a single mesh and build out but this way is much easier when multiple number of the same meshes.

Its faster, but its not better is all im saying. You will find out later in university.

Got hair, moda****a? Finally achieved a decent looking hair.

Damn, it takes so long to render and needs so much render passes to even preview that I spent all day basically rendering previews yesterday and today.

Still there are a couple of rogue strands here and there I need to fix, but I'll work on other stuff first because I can't spend another day like that.

Here it goes:

@Jakko:

Very nice building you got there.

Two minor gripes I have is that there are some apparent UV seams in the cement plaster bit and the corners are too sharp, you could try adding a bevel at least to the main corners.

Anyway, it's overall a great job, the scene is looking good too

Ran across some things today gearing up to prep for 3D work... Soul crushers I made when I was love struck in high school years. I was going to one day get a 3d print of a better design, should me and her have gone anywhere....

And well, since I am sharing my super depressing past, might as well show you the innards.

Oh this isn't my psychologists office, gotta run.

what's the point in posting old work?
Because this isn't titled "Official 3d Work In Progress art thread!", and because it has merit to the thread being I dont know.... a peice of 3D art that has more meaning than your post? Quit being a troll.

Oh, and a quick look at your portfolio site has quote "old work". Give it a rest.

Don't throw the word "troll" at somebody asking a legitimate question. The purpose of these threads (art, modelling, music, writing, sceners etc) is to show work and get critique and feedback from other artists. If you show something you completed years ago, there's not much point in anybody critiquing or even responding to it, so it'll just get ignored.

Don't mean to discredit your work, it's just that nobody wants to see dumps of old projects. Show something you've been working on recently.

So dont post 3D work people might like to look at in an art thread for 3D work? I get what you're saying, but that guy was being a troll. I wasn't looking for a critique, but if someone wants to respond, it better not be why did you post art in an art thread like a troll. It wasn't constructive and was troll bait. A better response from our friend here would be, "". Nothing AT ALL!

Besides that, its relevant to something important to me. Its not a "dump" of a project, even as my post stated it was intended to be redone for a 3D print. So not only was his point moot, he didn't even bother reading my post describing the work. Funny how internet tough guys show up to try and ruin the fun of artwork.

Is there a thread for other 3D art to post this on? Please show me.

Oh I forgot to mention that the work in question is the original to a modified print (album cover) making its way onto Itunes, Amazon, etc. So if I am going to be making more money from "Old Art" then its not really a "dump" or old at all.
