STORY TIME!!!!
The saga continued…. Story began on page 88 of thread
His heart pounding Calis dashed through the opened gate into the midst chaos, as men in dark robes grappled with the few soldiers left to guard the gatehouse. The traitors lightly armed and armored were being cut down by the experienced Keenite warriors but their job was done, the gates unbarred and the village betrayed. Calis quickly drew his sword, ramming it into the back of a defender as he grabbled with one of the traitors. The traitor, his robe covered in blood had only a moment to register relief before a mace splattered his brains across the wall. With the last of the traitors dispatched the remaining Keenites’ rush forward in the desperate hope to close the gates before it was too late. Ducking under a murderous swing, Calis thrust his sword underneath the keenites leather kilt severing the artery in the groin, then steped back just in time to block another attack and send a lightning riposte taking his attacker in the face. All around him the defenders were being over-run, pushed back by sheer weight of numbers, each one falling pierced my multiple blades. Wiping his blade on the dead mans robe, Calis joined the invading army as they surged through the streets for the battle was not yet won and besides he thought to himself “I still need to kill the whore-son who’s wearing my breastplate”.
With the gatehouse betrayed and the Keen armies still a kingdom away the outcome was inevitable. The barbarians streamed through the unbarred gates, surrounding the villages’ garrison who were now trapped on the walls blocking them off from retreating to the central tower. The last dozen defenders seeing that all was lost dropped their weapons and surrendered seeking mercy, none was given and to a man they were cut down. What followed was a massacre, as the men the taste of victory sweet on their lips sought pillage and booty. The few remaining villagers who hadn’t fled were hunted down and slaughtered and whole sections of the village were burnt down by over zealous looters before the generals restored order.
The next day Lord Matt conferred with his generals within the central keep, the city still smoldering around them. “So general Templates how do we stand, how are the men?” general Templates his eyes red and bleary, swayed slightly as he got to his feet
“Losses had been fewer than anticipated due to the betrayal which you had masterfully engineered might I add Lord, the plunder was light which is to be expected from a frontier village but a large store of ale was discovered and distributed to the men, morale is high and they are eager to press forward sir”.
Unfurling a map of the surrounding countryside, “that is good to hear, for we may be facing a fight sooner than expected” announced Matt, “For years I have been secreting my agents throughout the kingdoms, waiting for the time to strike”. “A messenger has just arrived; it would seem an army of the Dojo empire marches upon us. Many times they have allied with the Keenite Kingdom against the Knights of the South but why do they now seek to oppose our incursion into their lands?”
“I have an answer Lord” answered Calis, “To the south west lays a region of Dojo ancestral land, nothing but rugged hills and flyspeck villages but though the empire is vast they are loathe to give up territory even one so far flung”
Rubbing at his shoulder where an errant arrow had pierced his amour the barbarian leader smiled to himself “The Dojo Empire, pompous fool’s was a twist of fate which brought us defeat at their hands, I was but a hairs breadth from severing their glorious leaders head from his shoulders before an arrow laid me low, but no, not this time, my army has swelled tenfold and I shall have my revenge! Ready the men, these empire men will face the full might of RAWRRRR”
Stay tuned for the next installment of this thrilling epic, what will happen? Only time and strength of arms will decide.
