I'm not saying someone efficient in killing with firearms is as efficient as killing with scissors. What I'm saying is that just because firearms have the ability to kill, they shouldn't be banned. More people die in car accidents, but you don't ban those.

If someone was building cars with the expressed purpose of making it easier to cause or threaten to cause another human being with bodily harm and/or death, I certainly hope we would have the good sense to ban those cars.

That's the thing, firearms aren't designed to cause bodily human to people. Sure they are used in military conflicts, but 99% of firearm owners legally and responsibly handle those firearms. Most rifles nowadays are built for target shooting, or for the use of hunting game. Firearms aren't built with the "expressed purpose of making it easier to cause or threaten to cause another human being bodily harm and/or death." Firearms are tools, but people use them as weapons. People do the same thing with household objects.

And this is where I am glad that Canada has good regulation on firearms.

They actually were. Whether or not they're used for that purpose is irrelevant.

What I'm saying is that the express purpose of firearms in this day and age isn't to kill the enemy, it's usually designed as a rifle to target shoot, or use for hunting. Regardless, even those rifles that WERE designed to be used as a military battle rifle are typically handled with utter care, are safely secured, and safely handled. The murders with military styled rifles are so few and far between (something like 200 something last year i think?). Banning them would be about as effective as banning water, because people drown.

That's ridiculous, guns are made to kill. Civilian grade weapons are made for fun, in the same image as military ones.

As usual, the problem isn't the tool, it's the person. People are the problem in every one of these cases. Every one. Name one mass shooting that didn't involve a person.

That's not the express purpose, because they are made as a tool to kill. Whether you're killing humans or otherwise, that's what it's designed for.

I would like to see land mines legalized. Their express purpose nowadays is clearly landscape beautification and i dont see why anybody should get a say about whats on my lawn. As with guns, the problem with landmines is purely man-made, name a single case of landmine death were people werent involved.

Listen, this thread really isn't about your opinions on Gun Control in general, I've gotten off topic with that as well. The focus of this is: Does banning military surplus firearms really effect the number of murders committed with firearms?

It really is alarming that some people are so in denial when it comes to the primary reason for why guns exist. Or are they just pretending to be?

I'm not denying that firearms are designed to kill. That isn't the focus of this thread. It's over questioning the real effectiveness of banning the import of military surplus firearms.

OMGURD guys plox stahp offtopic. I made this very cerial thread and you have to do what i say!

So my neighbour, that was talking about this ban has an engorged prostate, do you guys have any advice on how to help him?
