In this your gonna have to get close to finish the job, there won't be so much a flst charge but a fighting advance by the attacking units,

Imagine when you play this game areypu just gonna sit in the trench forever?

I'll be like run in through no mans land using cover, its gotta beat attacking in a siege on nw

Rigadoon posted a feature list awhile back with update #8, that is what I will be implementing.. the rest is up to the mod's team.

Although there'll be people who attempt it purely for fancy and not cause it's actually effective

I reguarly play WW1 source and we do a lot of mass charges, surpisingly they do work though this is how it happens;

  • Officer calls down artillery to give us cover when we jump out.
  • We run across no mans land, jumping in shell holes, hiding behind hills etc.
  • If artillery smoke clears we usually sit in no mans land and take pot shots until more cover is available.
  • Repeat and move up, jump into trenches, throw grenades and get into bloody close combat.

That's how its supposed to work though a lot of the time artillery can hit the wrong area or the enemy is clever and re-position or is hiding in areas you cannot see and of course they can also shoot artillery/gas back at you while keeping you down with machine guns and sharp shooters. You also have the problem with people not using team work and just rambo'ing or just being inexperienced so this kind of tactics only really works when we play organised events.

Also with ideas of town/city/forest maps the game-play can completely change and isn't about running over a empty flat field.

That looks nice, WW1 fortified trenches were zig-zag shaped to avoid shrapnel blasts in length way trenches however and random trenches in the field wouldn't really be bolstered up with wood (often just muddy ditches or makeshift logs or even bones).

Shift trenches set up in no mans land often looked like this;

It would be great if you could make it more muddy, wet and full of shell holes. Making some shell holes filled with water would be great as it would be a danger hazard and slow people down.

Hope it helps with your map making, what you made so far looks great. How long are the maps may I ask?
 
Try not to make it to flat, no mans land should be quite dynamic,

I played a few far cry ww1 maps, my one the trenches and holes were too deep , this other one the trenches were straight and the map was flattish and then this other one with lots of holes and debris in no mans land, other then keeping ot I treating stuff in no mans land makes the map more accessible to opposing teams as they can advance and hide and that.

Flat map means you will be slugging it out from afar in trenches with no hope of anything else

edit" don't make the trenches straight, if a guy gets in the trench he can just shoot down the length of it
That's one if the  reasons trenches were zig zag
 
Aye if its completely flat then you make people sit in trenches in a sniper war, and if you only provide cover in certain areas in no mans land (say the left and right flanks only have holes and trenches) then you force the players to constantly go to those areas making it less dynamic.
 
Those maps are wrong. I live near the place of the fighting and
firstly the earth is still extremely uneven today because of all the shelling
and secondly, the land was criss crossed and covered by barbed wire

The maps arent finished and the mappers need more props to make it look better

Well. See, so far i haven't seen a mapping module so-far. (With the props included)  And I was bored so i decided to make some quick map. (this costed me only like -/+ 30 mins. The map isn't that big either. Seeing it's a purpose battle public map. But I believe this screenshot is still a bit on the older version of the map. I believe I did several edits to the map. Not sure tho if i got a pic.

Euhm if you want and if there sin't one I can try an ypres map since i'm going to the trench of death again in a 1 week or something

As soon as mapping tools are out i will make a (few?) bigger map for events if anyone wants to use them.
