Number of fighters on the map

Hello !

First of all, I just want to thank you for your work. It is truely amazing and despite a few historical errors (a very few ! The three and two  haired corinthian helmet, for exemple... Well I did not find any references or sources for it, but I might be wrong), your work is a realy precise and precious work.  You give M&B a new dimention and for that I am thankfull.

I post here to ask you a question :

I do not understand how to configure the number of fighters on the map. I have the official bar from 25 to 100, but in PW it is not adapted I think because of the new proportions of parties : I sometimes have battles with 2000 soldiers and if I want to fight that, I just have to fight a lot of battle killing them between 50 and 75 of their men at each battle ! It is unplayable to me, and if I want to play that, counting fifteen minutes by battles, I will have a fight all night !

So, is there something I did not understood ?

With all my respects,

Floren

whatever you want remember this : DO NOT CHANGE THE BATTLE SIZE WITH BATTLESIZER!!!!!!!!
game will not maintain that, it'l just crash...

 Was he being sarcastic? Battlesizer works fine, just set it to under 200...

And actually fighting 160 men battles?

No way. Even if you did, you would have to play on a really powerful machine or play with probably unbearable lag.

160 doesn't seem like much to me.  I play with hundreds all the time in mods like Roots and E&TRC.  Why would it crash in Peloponnesian?

Must be some problem with your machines..

I have every setting on max and set the battlesize to 200 and I don't experience lag. My computer isn't killer by any standard.

My computer can handle about 100 - 150 TPW troops. I set it to 100 to play with 60 fps (refresh rate of my monitor). Got a QuadCore 2.4 Ghz and 3 GB RAM.

i have a powerfull machine too, no lags with 200 on max in battle, but it crashes anyway

It crashes cause the armors and weapons in TPW have a bunch of detailed reflections and stuff which overloads the game engine, thereby making the game crash. THere isnt really something you can do about it... :???:

Thanks, man. Regarding what you mentioned above, these models were made based on Mr. Sekunda's statements (Osprey's "The Spartan Army") and other viable references. I did take some liberties with a couple models, but not those.

I will make sure I mention each and every model that flees a bit from the real stuff so people won't be confused. I am also thinking about letting the player disable all the models that are not hardcore on accuracy, so they are automatically changed ingame (ie. switch the corinthian for a pilos helmet for spartans and so on).

Regarding the number of fighters, it is true that TPW is way more demanding than other mods, it demands both from the machine and M&B's engine (lets not forget that the whole scope of M&B is to run on lower end machines, with low res textures, the engine was designed for that, not for big textures and lots of specularity and alpha channel reading on every model). The more stuff I throw in there, the more chances will be for it to crash on people. It's been a struggle to keep away from that, more than modding itself. Another issue will be towns and assault scenes, add the models and collision meshes to the fully equipped characters and there will be a bigger problem. I'm aware of all that and I'll do what I can to keep it playable.

Don't expect to push a lot into the game's engine by fighting 300-400 people on a battlemap with trees and such, and have the engine read tenths of 1024x1024 textures with 100% video settings though, because it will crash no matter what you do.

Just to be sure there is no missunderstanding:
With the Mount&Blade Battlesizer isn't meant the ingame Battlesizer! It's an extra programm you can download so you can change the number of fighters on a battlefield way above the ingame settings. But think about it before you do this because it may let your game crash if you overdoing it! Most mods work well until you set the battlesizer over 200.

Oh, ok ! Thank you ! I do not have this Osprey. I have other ospreys about Ancient Greece, but not "The Spartan Army". I will watch it closely ! Thanks again !

Two good ideas !

Yes... I tried with 200 peoples and it goes well. My technique : forget about ragdoll and corpses and everything is fine ! It is still difficult to fight with big armies against big armies and take a lot of time but less than before ! Your mod need a lot of resources but it is beautifull, so it worth it !

I hope to see the next part, one day, when you'll have the time... Your mod is a treasure in the island of all the mount&blade mods !

Heh, I have my game set on Max Settings, with 300 as my Battle Sizer Limit. It works fine with no lag, I have unlimited ragdolls and bodies, as well as blood. Works fine. Maybe you should check out your computer.

Dude believe me the problem isnt computer since my computer runs Crisis, COD4/5 with no problem.
When good computers have FPS problems with medium games its due game engine not computers fault. Lynores is right when he says that, so let me ask when Warbands come will it be possible to play TPW mod without FPS problems ? Hope so.

Btw congratulations and good luck with your project, I played the demo, and will comeback to play Alpha
