Nudity being so taboo

It's odd isn't it.
In ancient Greece and Rome (to a lesser extent) human form was glorified, and depictions of naked men and women decorated many public places.
That was the case until Abrahamic religions came along and transformed nudity into something extremely taboo; a sin. God hates when people don't cover how they really look, or chop a piece of skin from their **** (here I'm amusing myself)

Now the western world is sobering up and nudity slowly becomes more acceptable, although the context is almost exclusively sexual, unlike in ancient Greece. Is it bad? I don't think so.
Nudity still bears the mark of guilt and obscenity religion has placed on it. It's precisely why it's "naughty" and why she has been a "bad girl" and will be punished tonight. It's burned in our psyche.
"Think of the kids!" they yell. The kids will feel whatever society tells them to feel about nudity. If they sense it's deemed immoral and obscene, they will in time adopt exact same view. Many of the indigenous people in warm parts of the world don't wear any cloth whatsoever, and i doubt it messes them up mentally.

So yeah, rant over.
Honestly though, i just felt like putting tits in my avatar. Damn good ones.

If a nude man pranced around the streets of Athens in the nude while not the games, his disposition would be pretty taboo too.

Perhaps, but i don't exactly hold Greek views as some sort of golden standard either. It's just meant to facilitate discussion and illustrate that nudity may not be so gravely bad.
Olympic games were watched by all ages, by the way. As was gladiatorial combat (gladiators were often nude or nearly nude as well).

I for one am all for banning public nudity.

It's a well known fact that most nudists are people you'd never want to see naked in the first place.

I would say nudity isn't that bad, but Reverend L. Lamb made me rethink my position.

You must be from US

I don't know. I've been to a nudist beach once, in Russia, and it wasn't that bad. Well, apart from...you know. Being newbie and out of the element, so to speak.

It depends where you are in the U.S. Where I"m at? No... Fernandina is just a tourist attraction.... But, if I were to go to the other side of the panhandle, maybe destin beach? Yeah, that would be great.

I agree with you.  If it was really warm most of the year, I wouldn't see anything wrong with going around in the nude, if that was how other people felt.  Getting hard would be so WEIRD though.  Still.

No, your supposed to get hard, and then walk around doing the"*******, Smile and Wave" technique.

LOLWUT?

Abrahamic religions predate Ancient Greece.

Not in Greece.  The effect of the Abrahamic religions wasn't seen in anything but Palestine until Christianity became widespread in the 2nd and 3rd century CE.

He might be talking about Christianity. I don't know if Judaism knew or cared about Greece's foibles.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Point still stands.

In ancient Greece, the people wearing no clothes were the whores, who went naked or wore flimsy see through material to "advertise their wares" as it were, so in most contexts it was indeed sexual. While they were fine with being naked in some contexts, such as in a gym or bath amongst members of your own gender, they had a similar attitude to modern society at the thought of unisex nudity.
"Think of the kids!" they yell. .
They yell that about anything. Because society must be formed around the people too young to participate in it, apparently

Erm, they don't actually. You'll note in fact that the Old Testament talks about the Greeks. In fact, at the best estimated date, when the Israelites were fleeing Egypt the Mycenaean Greeks were just about to be displaced by the Dorians as the dominant culture within Greece itself, which occurs roughly the same time the Jews become Monotheists.

I'm naked right now, lambey-pie.

You're sitting naked on the chair while browsing the forum?  :???: **** you, I won't be able to sleep now (unless you're not a dude, but I'm pretty sure you are).

Do the words "soaped up homosexuals" mean anything to you? I'd be surprised if anyone here wasn't naked.

I do it sometimes too, though not in the current season. In spring, summer, and fall, after taking a shower I'll often just stay naked as long as I don't plan on going out or plan on having company (depending on the sort of company anyway).

Nudity in itself isn't a bad thing. We all have bodies, they only differ in shape, size and colour. A bit like cars, really. The bad stuff is how people automatically associate nudity with sex. And, more recently, nudity with paedophiles. You wouldn't want your kids going naked if you knew somebody was going to perv on them, just as (most) women wouldn't want to go naked if they knew they were going to be perved on. Nude/Naturist beaches tend to be secluded not only to "protect" the general public from seeing terrible naked people, but also vice versa.
