Which castles or cities have stood out in your mind during a siege? For me it's Praven (don't think that ever got patched, it's been so long since I attacked Praven) and Durin Castle. Praven is just a complete fail because the city merged into a hill and Durin Castle makes you spawn like 200m away and on the wrong side of the castle, so running around it adds like another 100m.

I've wondered about this as well, but for me, it's because I'm looking to nab a castle to be my bandit hideout and I want one that's particularly fun to defend.

I remember defending Dhirim was pretty great, since once their siege tower made it over, I managed to get myself at the perfect angle beside the first battlement from where I could broad-side the invaders with my great long axe while they gnashed into the line of defenders. Probably snapped 15 kills with 15 swings inside of 20 seconds. With Sargoth, I had a similar time after ordering everyone to hold one of the towers to the left of the breach-point, but never quite as good as the great Dhirim massacre .

Wish I had more to contribute, but I'm still relatively new to the game.

Praven is amazing to defend if you have ranged troops.  however.... if you dont and the attacking force does... Well prepare for a bloodbath as they just camp the bottom of the hill and pick away at your men.

Jamiche Castle and Almerra Castle.  I cant remember if both of these were worth mentioning, but i know one of them was the hardest yet most fun places to attack earlier in my campaign.

Jamiche needs a tower, Almera has the inner courtyard.

Unuzdaq is a bit weird with the high observation post in the cliff.  It's also a great configuration to do a defense where you wait in the courtyard.  Very few attackers reach the bottom of the staircase

I'm using the castles from the Historic Castle project (very worth advertising: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,115163.0.html), and it took me a while to figure out how to handle Tevarin castle.  Was a nice challenge.
Don't think I've visited all of them, but those that I did were very nice.

As a bandit hideout, Almerra is nice. Almerra is completely made out of wood and pretty good to defend if you have solid ranged units. On the other hand, you might want to take another castle that lies very isolated if you plan to stay small for an extended period.

Ya Almerra is definitely worth mentioning. If the defenders have a solid army of archers, the attackers will be getting shot at on 4 sides once they get into the courtyard. I remember I went in there with an army of 600+ against about 150-200 Vaegir defenders, about 60-75% of them being marksmen. We got torn up.

Almerra is worth noting, i hate to siege it, luckily i play almost only Rhodoks. I remember a sarranid castle, forgot the name, it has a very (extremely) long wall that ends up in a cliff, and there is a shooting spot in the cliffs , you get there trought some kind of stairwell mixed with steep terrain. If you know how to calculate arrow drop you can take out 90 attackers hitting their back from a huge distance (12.0 difficulty shots i think, 14.4 for headshots, only hit once of sheer luck). I hated siegeing it so much i put 800 guys inside to ensure i never have to cap it again.

Ya I remember that castle. It took me a few shots before I was able to tell where to aim for headshots with my crossbow.

That one is an excellent experience. I personally enjoy some of the tundra castles; it's just such a classic castle with a very straight-forward objective. Then there are others with courtyards and different terrain.

I like the wooden castles, like Rahdogir Caslte or Tehlrog Castle.

Butwhen you besiege them, it's hard to actually get to the frontline on the walls: only one staircase that leads to the back of your army and you can't reach your enemies because your own soldiers stand in your way. You just have to sit back and wait till the fight is over or range some enemy troops of the wall.

Tilbaut castle was it? the Vaegir one on the border with Swadia that is rarely ever in Vaegir hands. As funny as it is, on the map it's far enough away from any mountains. In the siege instance itself, the castle is literally perched on a peak, amongst many other mountain peaks, with the attacking party spawning on the steep approaches to the peak and somewhere to the side. I swear, a pain in the arse! Especially when I was sniping at the defenders and fell of the cliff. Didn't KO myself, but my way was blocked by the fence leading to the gate (the only more or less level place was the path leading to the castle, with the fence along it and the breach in the wall somewhere on the other side). I couldn't jump the fence because of my encumbrance (damn the coat of plates!) so I had to go around...

Anyone know which castle this is? The person who posted the video doesn't seem to have a clue.

That looks like Durin Castle, but I can't absolutely say it is because when I was attacking it I never looked down the ladder so it's a different perspective. That's the castle I mentioned in the OP, you spawn far away from it and on the other side of the castle.

Goddamn I hated durin castle =[
Eventually I just waited till the sarranids asked for a truce, and I just kept demanding durin castle from them

There was one castle, can't remember the name. A sarranid one (or atleast at the time). was simply one huge wall blocking a mountian pass, with a small courtyard. It was slightly curved inwards so that archers along the wall could fire at the centre ladder, and it even sloped up on the side of the pass

Haven't seen it in-game, but this video makes me think it's Jameyyed castle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VJ8q8PVw84

That one has a definite charm

Golden hills is excellent to defend if you are an archer. There is a building that you and bots can access right behind the main wall and a little higher, when the enemies attack you can stand there and shoot them in the head as they attack your troops.

Golden Hills? Is that your nickname for one of the castles? Or is that part of a mod? Or am I missing a joke here?

My thoughts exactly.
