Taste those great mods if you haven't done so. Or try to survive with no party beginning from your Level-1 character. The second choice is really challenging. Especially if you think that you will not be able to get most of the requests from the merchants (because of that "at least x strong" requirement), you will have to make money by fighting either in the arena or real battles.

That's the only way I'm making money anyway - selling loot from the dead and slaves at the market. Usually only have Marnid and Borcha tagging along for their Party skillpoints.

Are merchant quests worth doing?

Sure, you can make money and xp by completing the requests given by the merchants:
-Resque the kidnapped girl
-Escort a caravan
-Deliver goods

I love the first one. The merchant asks you to deliver the ransom to the bandits that kidnapped a girl. The bandits will be waiting for you near a town. You find them -purple colored bandits- and you have two choices: You may either pay the ransom, get the girl and return her to the merchant that gave you the request.
OR you may keep the ransom for yourself, fight against the bandits, save the girl and return her.

Either way you earn money and xp. But -obviously- second way is more profitable and risky.

Other requests are straightforward but you have to take care of the caravan or the goods and punish those who happen to disturb.

Also, I'm not sure if you know that you can join Vaegirs or Swadians.

Oh, but I do know about joining sides, quest from nobles, merchants etc. It's just that the quests are rather boring, so I haven't checked if doing quests was worth it money and XP wise, compared to picking random fights

I know how it's supposed to work, but 50% of the time the bandits get chased away by some random war party, and you have to spend 20 game minutes riding around looking for them. VERY ANNOYING  So I stopped doing those quests too.

After sometime almost every game becomes boring. I experienced similar things sometime ago and started modifying the game features. And after that again I got bored and tasted vanilla version; it was "delicious"!

It is really amusing to play with those moding tools. You should try it! Or play some other game for a while

Blasphemy! Heritic! Heathen!

I think I'm going to continue writing my AARish ingame-story which I started quite some time ago... gives the game purpose.

edit: wow, that's 5 consecutive sentences ending in a smilie...

For the troops or yourself, I havent noticed musch of a change - though it gives a good starting kick compared to picking fights whe, you're at low level. But for the two heroes It was a real boost as they seem to get a fair share of XP in the process - considering their quite subpar combat performance they'll level a lot quicker this way (I haven't tried playing 'the three combat stooges', ie fighting with only you and the two idiots in your party)

Pshhh, amateurs

:?: :?: I don't think that trying to hunt down a dark knight party alone is for amateurs.

(Or, do you mean something else?)

They can work, but it's a lot of heartache levelling them and kitting them out for little return. Pointless giving them horses for example, they seem even denser than most cavalrymen. But with a longbow apiece and some suitable unsubtle weapon like a greatsword or glaive they actually manage to kick a bit of ass before they inevitably go down. If you stay on foot and stay with them (helping them out before they get swamped) you're actually quite a fearsome trio. Still too much like the three amigos for my liking though..

If I hadn't already lost all the hope I had left for mankind, I would have lost it now.

I've said this before and I'm saying it again: How about going out? Stepping out of your virgin chamber? The real world isn't that bad you know.

Playing games is a great way to spend time, but for buddha's sake, don't do it all the time.

Don't say anything. Stop talking, start doing. I want you to get absolutely hammered next weekend. That is an order and it is to be obeyed, unless you have fundamental beliefs that deny it. If not, get pissed.
