Since last patch, I cannot for the life of me gain enough money to sustain my small troop (42) with lvl 5 Trading and buying green items and selling them where suggested. It was a squeeking by exitence before until you could scrape enough together (which was realistic) but whatever you have done, please undo it. I'm now out of money and out of food and even with 10 horses in my inventory, I cannot catch a single f'ing bandit; Looter or otherwise. Also I desperately don't want to sell the horses I have painstakingly acquired because even with horses I can't catch sh!t. Losing them I wouldn't even be able to run them into a mountain with no food and no money.

Hard is fine. Undoable is NOT fun.
and for all the "helpful" people who will comment they are doing just fine - start a new game and see how well you do.

I'm lvl 7. 42 trading. 1 sumpter, 1 mule, 2 saddle horses, 6 desert horses. Can't catch ANYthing. Out of dennars. I have to forfeit this entire game. not fun.

12 horses for a 42 heads band? Sounds to me like you just didn't manage well.

But I'll take your words for it; I'll start a new game.

Having at least one horse for each soldier in you band is pratically the basic thing to do. And you shouldn't always trust what the numbers say for prices in the different towns when you hover on items, it changes quite a lot at times.

Most I could get so far. Is that too high? or too low? In your opinion?

You are doing well, probably 42 menr are just a bit high stacked for the beginning. Yes, it became more difficult since the last patch, but in the meanwhile I am around 500k Gold and I earn so much money, that I don't know where to spend it. I recommend you, to solve a few minor quests, which give you around 400 - 900 gold per success. And don't forget to participate in the Arena Tournaments, since it gives you experience, money and a good item, since the latest patch.

Take care, though. Once you get over 100 horses, you get herd penalties to speed. I usually keep about one horse per five or six men and it does me fine at 5.0 speed for a party of 75.

Kind of hard to believe. I'll have to keep an eye out when I start a new game, make sure I'm managing my money.
I have 2 other saves. have max Workshops and Caravans. it wasn't easy, but doable. My new game I can't play now because no food or dennars. and seriously can't catch anyone to fight. Can't believe at lvl 7 I have to scrap the entire save.

idk, I had 80 horses when I had 70-80 men and I wasn't unhappy with the 5.9-6.0
It makes catching up on parties easier, and trading is also faster... I always look after my speed and see what affects it.

True, it does make things easier. It also makes things more expensive, though, and I'm a miser until late game. I usually subsist entirely on horses I loot unless my speed drops below 5.0. 5.0 is usually sufficient to catch the quarry I chase.

The problem is gated gameplay, realistically what you 'should' be doing, and by 'should' I mean this is what the developers want you to do at this stage, and apparently some players at well, because they don't like sandboxes, is to transition to become a mercenary band for a poor performing power, earning influence and getting paid pretty well.

Trading and tournaments are pretty garbage for any new playthroughs. Welcome to a non-sandbox sandbox.

Expenses is a minus, though. That's probably just his band cost and he didn't buy a workshop or started a caravan. And since he's too slow to catch up on smaller parties he can beat easily, he doesn't make any money from beating bandits and looters either.

I'm level 7. I can't make any money doing this at this stage; I can't even catch anyone since last patch.
