Intense debates going on here. Juve already knows my vote so I won't get into it.

However, DoF is coming up with a team as we speak though. Darin is trying to come up with a suitable and active roster at the moment.
 
Indeed, good to see a DoF teams. There are whispers of many other teams being formed as we speak. Perhaps even more than one from a few different clans. :!:



In other news, concerns and objections have been raised over the maps Village and Vendetta. I can't think of any closed map alternatives, so I'm going to put up a poll soon.

Edit: If anyone has the time or energy to make one or two new closed maps and have the sufficiently tested before the tournament starts, that could be a neat alternative. The tournament itself could also be used to test it/them for the next battle tournament, whatever it ends up being.

That's my vote (other), assuming there is someone who has the time or energy. If two nice maps are made that could replace Vendetta and Village, I wouldn't be opposed. I personally don't mind Vendetta, though.
 
Why are you looking to get rid of two tried and tested maps? One of which has been used in competitive play since the launch of the game? I'd like to know what these concerns/objections are.
 
We on DoF_USC_Server have quite a few custom maps.I will post some screenshots soon.

Only reason I'm exploring the option of removing them is because concerns/objections have been raised. I'm not "looking to get rid of" anything. It's the same reason I asked around about starting gold. I'm fine with keeping the maps, since as you said they're both tried and tested, but I don't see a problem with replacing them as long as there's enough support and reason for it.

As for the objections raised, I don't think most of NA likes Vendetta and no one has fun while playing on Village. I'm sure there are better reasons to replace them, but I'm not the one to provide them.
 
Village sucks for competitive play.
AND it hasn't been played in the NA community for a long time. I would be in favor or replacing it. Considering the fact that it's not played when people pick their own maps, I think there's a pretty good argument in the fact that the map is not enjoyable for us any more.

Should be a remove both option imo

My suggestion to find a new map is to pub on cRPG until you find a good one. They have upwards of 100 maps, maybe about half of them are a good size for this, but even so. Many of them are just variations of scenes from singleplayer and custom battles.

Mostly play style between the two communities, but if we are going to split hairs here both Ruined Fort and Random Plains were abstractly removed from EU competitive. 

Ruined Fort may be "boring", but you can't find a better balanced Native map for both spawns.

Random Plains (actualy plains, not mountains) is easily an engaging and competitive map and if you took the random MoTF out of the equation, the second most balanced. (Behind Ruined Fort)

Also 5v5 on Village is carp.  I can see Vendetta but to be honestly, I think as a community we just don't like the map.  I don't think it has ever been chosen by a team in any tournament and we just don't see it as that competitive.  It is highly focused on a specific play style, which in turn, limits competitiveness.
 
Personally, I don't like neither Port Assault, nor Village, nor Vendetta because, in my opinion, they are poorly balanced. However, balance is of little importance if you are playing with swaps (and you are). Also, I'm quite surprised that we don't see the mixed map category and some of the mixed maps labelled as open. Please, bring mixed back.

Erminas, those maps look nice, but that's about as much as I can say by looking at the pictures. If you were to subject the maps to comprehensive testing --and I don't mean eliminating glitches, which goes without saying for any map, but also making sure they are interesting to play competitively-- I would imagine Juve and co. would be open to adopting them in the tournament. Perhaps you could use the testing procedure for PiMP as a starting point.
 
Village has always  been a horrible and boring map in competitive play in my experiences with it. Vendetta... It's an interesting map, a lot of different strategies can be played as there are a lot of openings and places to take cover in. I'd say that the map isn't picked as much as you would think because not many people are particularly familiar with it. You say you want to play the map, and you have everyone saying "what map is that?". I'd like to play some matches on it, but definitely not village... no no no no no.

Please... get rid of ruined fort... I play this game to have fun, not climb mountains for 2 minutes for 8 rounds. Da *** is the point of a "balanced"  map if no one can even have fun on it. Also... how is any other map not balanced with these kind of rules?  You swap and have to use the exact same factions.. it balances out in the end no matter what you do.

Those maps look pretty darn awesome.. but... have you tested them out with a low-end computer? They might be very laggy like GK's maps.

They both look neat. We'll see about getting some clans to run some pick up scrims on the maps and see what they think about the maps from a competitive perspective.

The only reason mixed was removed was for fixture-generating purposes. If we were to bump the total maps up to 12 or 15 I would probably try to categorize the maps evenly between the three map categories, but 5 open and 5 closed just works well as the maps are now.

The time it takes to climb each side of the mountain is greatly exaggerated. Action can potentially start less than a minute into the round, which is better than some other maps. There was one round in Canucks vs. wK wherein the teams met in less than 30 seconds, iirc. I personally think Ruined Fort is enjoyable and challenging.
 
Stop making this a democracy Juve! Also both maps are **** for 5v5 and boring. No one likes them. Poll need option remove both. Also poll will be insccurate due to all the other folks not involved voting, which will happen. Less democracy more tyranny.

Yea... tell that to the members of the pickup party that went from 22 people to 7 when Manyd decided to pull off the Ruined Fort pick. Maybe you Balions with the help from Mad Dawg's discrete brain washing techniques enjoy it, but nobody ******** else does.

Edit: Actually... maybe a few people more... like Tesla and Robo who always try to go for the maps that everyone else hates just to piss them off and not try.
 
So....moving into new apartment about 3 weeks after start of tourney but I might as well sign up anyways. At least I'll finally have something better than my current high ping, 256 kbp/s internet.
