The water prop is a tad too transparent. I'll have to fiddle with it a bit more.

damn fine work there

Did you created the props yourself?

Is all of these for a new TLOTR mod? Impressive work!

Thanks!
It's all TLD props, some are slightly altered in OpenBRF. I will release most of my scenes as a or as part of TLD submod sooner or later.

@Sherlock No worries! I'm myself haven't yet gotten down to look into the water prop any further. But as I told you, I don't really have a clue about stuff like that, anyway.

Good news for you, then. I'm almost finished!

And as no-one else seems to work on any scenes, at the moment, I might as well show off some evil settlements.

Approach through the haunted woods

the gate

Our Black Númenorean goes for a ride

The Towers of the Teeth

strange people from strange lands approach to bolster the Dark Lord's armies.

The moon-flowers

Where might these stairs lead?

The city of the wraiths

It kinda pales in comparison of what has been posted on the last few pages but the goal is to improve I guess.

I like that the village is so round and fluffy, it looks really more realistic, good job!

Saw that Whigs and tories got updated so I decided to do some cheeky mapping on NW since I love the props, especially the fences.

still really really really empty

Really nice atmosphere in both scenes!

@seek n destroy
The buildings could use a bit fake ambient occlusion. Try playing with OpenBRF's settings a bit. Also, I find the 'organic' form of the town wall a bit unrealistic. Why would the citizens build their wall longer than necessary?

I vaguely remember reading about the siege of a town in Sicily a few decades to maybe a century before the starting date of the mod I'm working on (~300 B.C.) in which the houses were a couple of stories tall and built really close to the walls. The besiegers aimed their siege engines on the houses which were not as resilient as the walls and cleared some holes in them wide enough for their siege tower ramps to unload troops into the houses instead of the narrow walls where the garrisons were posted. They quickly overrun the defenders making for an unusually "fast" siege. I know this doesn't justify anything but it's an interesting story, I'll see if I find that book again and recreate the scene for that siege some day.

On to the scene itself, I based it on an artist's interpretation of the town of Vulci around the timeframe I'm interested in:
v3Qnm.jpg

I started with the 'plateau' (is it the correct term in english?) which I had to scale down for obvious reasons and the walls surrounding it. I improvised the rest based on the props I have available and my own abilities. The rest is a mix of different factors, me being lazy and a concern to not overload the scene nor make it repeat too much.

It may sound overly defensive but I do appreciate the feedback, I'll see what I can do with the AO. I'm just too concerned about having to start the scene over

I think the walls are gorgeous but I think you could make the shape feel more natural by raising the town/lowering the surrounding terrain. In the drawing you linked the slopes around the walls look 10× the height of the walls themselves. Also note how gates are always placed at the "armpit" of the overhangs so defenders get a view of the enemy's back if they assault the gates. In your reference image the shape of the walls looks better because the purpose is obvious. In your scene it still looks good, but doesnt feel as natural.

I admit I didn't notive the city was placed on a plateau. Maybe add rock textures at some places, to make the slope more pronounced? Also terrain colouring might help here.

I might not have made clear enough that the scene is really beautiful! I also like the realistic outer terrain prop.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share some of the many new scenes I made for my 'Borgerkrigen 1157' (The Danish Civil War 1157) mod for Warband. I have made 100+ new towns, castles and villages for the mod, and many of them are made using prospects and maps of the actual towns in Denmark, Sweden and Northern Germany in the 12th century.
I hope you like them, and I'd love to get some feedback from my fellow sceners.
