When you are a vassal or own settlement as a minor faction and then you help friendly villagers/caravans or any allied parties, it won't net you any relationship gain.
I haven't tested this when you found a kingdom because the main quest bugged out by "10 years has passed" timeout even though it has only been roughly 2-3 years.
