Newb Question (polearms)

I may of missed this somewhere but is it possible to 'couch' or otherwise prepare a pike to receive a charge? Or is it simply a case of thrusting with the right timing? (ooo errr).

You cna only couch something with lance in the name, and only on horseback.  Pikemen have to stab at the right time.
