SP Fantasy New Tolkien Mod: looking for a team.

Don't look for a mod team. Look for someone to do something specific on a one time basis. If they volunteer regularly then you can consider them part of the team.

I'm gonna jump to a huge conclusion and say that I think this will be a mod about the Fourth Age ("the new shadow"). the second guess is that it concerns the Blue Wizards. if the first is correct, I'll be glad to contribute in some form, in terms of models, and maybe a map, if needed. I'd suggest something different from what's in TLD  - maybe one that goes east/west rather than the north/south stretched one AW has- say, from the Shire to Esgaroth or so. I'd say from the Gray Havens to the Iron Mountains, but that's stretching it a bit too much, IMO.

like he said, it's a Tolkien mod, not a LOTR mod. the one whole year that encompases the LOTR/TLD/WOTR is only a small part of the at least four ages Tolkien had created.

hit me up on PM, I'm quite interested.

edit: just saw the post involving Gandalf, so I guess it's not a FOurth Age/New Shadow mod, as Gandalf is gone by then. still, I'm interested

Yeah, I see we had some similar ideas  I would like some more mythical elves-Sauron/Morgoth wars setting or the east and the blue wizards too

Sorry to burst your bubble Eogan, but in the Tolkien stories...there is flashy magic.
Really?  There are fireworks... and gandalf can apparently char-broil any goblin that touches him and shield himself from the fire of a balrog, but I didn't see much of anything that REMOTELY compares with the level of magic in D&D and most other worlds where even ordinary foot-soldiers learn how to cast spells.

Colt: A good suggestion, and I may forge ahead not knowing how I'll get certain things done, but I'd like at least two or three other "idea men" to help guide the plot and settings of it.

Octoburn, I PMed you.

In the Hobbit Gandalf did a spell that killed twenty Goblins.
He basicly threw fireballs at wargs.

His ring is one of the Three Elf rings. His particular one is the fire one which gave him enhanced abilitys with fire.

The Silmarilion has quite a bit of magic in it. For Example: the Girdle of Melian (I think thats spelled right).

Anone could learn magic in Tolkien's world. IF the person took the looooooong time to learn it.

I think Eogan's point is that most of the people didn't. Unlike DaD where everyone can do some stuff...

Personally I think the great majority of you need to do the following: Lay the **** off.*

Ok, we have one mod based on Tolkien's works, namely the lord of the rings, and it's a large scale war mod.

You might as well be saying 'LOLE WHY MAKE ANY MORE GAMES ABOUT WW2! WE ALREADY HAVE ONE LOLROFL!'

Because it's not going to be the same as TLD, it's going to be set in a Tolkien universe. That's all.  It's not like it'll look exactly the same, as this one is more movie influenced (Appearance-wised, anyway)

I'll be very interested in seeing what comes of this, hoping it's not 'HAY GUYZ IM MAKING TIHS MOD RITE, AND THERES THESE NINJAS, AND THEY SHOOT LASERS FROM THEIR SUPER OBLIVION POPE EYEZ, KAY, EXCEPT I CANT MOD SO ILL JUST SIT HERE AND ASK FOR YOU GUYS TO DO IT!' either that or one man team-mods, w here even the name is a complete rip from another mod, which also sees pretty much nothing done.

And he's right, y'know. You don't see your average man of Gondor running around shouting 'MAGIC MISSILE!' or anything. And yes, Gandalf can do flashy magic, but he's not using it every 3 seconds, and it's not like anyone can have Gandalf's powers=/

*Excluding YoshiBoy, they seemed to have resolved that.

I think this is a great idea. Too many mods, while fun and very nice work, are just re-models, re-skins, re-maps, without any story or RPG elements (real life history doesn't count  ). If you are going to choose the Tolkien world and make a character-intensive, non-kill-everything-and-bring-me-9-steppe-horses mod, I think that is fantastic.

yall need to chill. this is a somewhat touchy subject i guess, someone criticized one of the greatest mods in m&b history, but you guys are really not handling this maturely. TLD gave us a lotr war game, but eogan simply wants to personalize it and make it more character based than army based. tehgerkin kinda said what i'm trying to say only he said it in a more abrasive manner than i ajm, but let it be and see if eogan can pull it off. i think you guys lost your temper too much and took too many jabs at each other so chill. and i agree woth the subtle magic thing, i really like that. i think we just have somewhat of a misunderstanding about it. although gandalf has crazy fire magic, he's not infinitely powerful or constantly using his powers. and let's not forget that he's one of the most powerful beings in middle earth, not very many people can use magic like that.

edit: also, i think it's a really cool and creative idea to try and capture the lotr feel without it actually being lotr. a mysterious mission that requires you to crawl closer to your own demise or rise to the challenge and come out victorious.

would be nice if the orcs arent uber like in other lotr mods, uruks should be good fighters, but orcs gott prettymuch killd like flys in the book and movie

Orcs were actually pretty powerful in the books. The likelyhood was that a struggling man could kill 2-3 orcs on average i always felt. Uruks were closed to the power of men if not more powerful.
