New Starting Character design

Master Knight
Hi guys,

I plan to add 2-3 new starting characters to the mod, but haven't yet thought about them. If you have a good idea for one, please post here (starting attributes, skills, weapon proficiencies, and a few words about starting equipment and playstyle).

Some guidelines:
-Not similar to any of the five current character classes.
-A total of 42-45 points in attributes
-A total of 27-30 points in skills

Little brainstorming. Types of characters we have now

Commander->Merchant. I find this character quite boring. Tactics? Engineer? Not very useful. Inventory management 6? A lot of items makes you slower on map. Despite his skills, I doubt he can the the big army he needs because he won't help in battle. Since he can't fight, is hard to level, and with battle morale system, he doesn't help to inspire his men killing some of the enemies.

Heavy cavalry->Old Knight (though I'd say he is 50% commander, because he's a bit weak and has low weapon skills, but with leadership and training)

Horse archer/Light cavalry-> Son of Khergit Khan

Archer->Skilled Hunter

Light infantery->Barbarian. Light armor, polearms, 2-handed and throwind weapons

I think we only miss the heavy infantery,
The old Onyx Guard. Heavy armor, shield, 1 handed weapons and (repeating) crossbows.

Mercenary warrior.

18 strength, 14 agility, 6 Intelligence, 6 Charisma
5 Ironflesh, 7 Powerstrike, 4 Athletics, 4 Tactics, 4 Trainer, 2 Pathfinding, 2 Leadership
Plenty of skill in two-handed weapons, some skill with the crossbow.
Starts with some chainmail and a greatsword of some sort, plus a light crossbow and some bolts.

Basically medium infantry.

A Fallen Noble. Lost his money and his land, drinking habit, only a couple of gold pieces left and his old sword and shield.
No more horse, no more armour.

Drinking habit has influenced his strenght and stamina, but he is a man for tactics, sword fighting (although he has low strength), trade, etc. Also high on charisma.

I tought about something similar as Headhunter. Only need high Archery, Prisoner Management, Tracking and Pathfinding. Could give up Tactics and Ironflesh for that.

I think there should be variations in main storyline depending on what starting character you play. I remember Travelling Merchant in EG2 was least popular character to play. Lack of fun in combat with him could be compensated by interesting line of quests.

A banished bear tribe leader.
Iron flesh and power strike at max of available points. No archery, medium athletics, medium horse riding, no armor just naked, only a big stone hammer. Good inteligence and very good strength, low agility. no merchants skills.
This guy can knock down in one hit a medium npc. He is still a great warrior but his abilities for leadership are crapy, so this is what he needs to improve mostly, thats why he was banished on the first side. He was the son of a great leader but lacking abilities they exiled him. Now it is the time to take revenge on all bear tribes and create his own kingdom.
His abilities on WARCRY should make all bear tribes people get scared and to run away no matter what his level is.
He has no horse and no money but he has some stolen heard of cattles (something like 30 - this should give him a starting money).

A warrior monk kicked out from the monastery for his excessive love of fighting. He has gained great knowledge of both human physiology and the land around him during his years under the teaching of monks, and though his entusiasm for fighting is admirable, his strength leaves a lot to be hoped for. He's quite fast on his feet, and since he prefers to use light armour he should have no dificulties outmanouvering most of your typical enemies.

7 Strength
12 Agility
21 Intelligence
5 Charisma

2 Ironflesh, 2 Powerstrike, 4 Athletics, 7 Surgery, 7 Wound treatment, 4 Tracking, 4 Pathfinding.

His skill with polearms should be unmatched, and he could also have picked up some moves with a one handed weapon, practising with wooden swords on the monastery grounds. He will spawn with a staff weapon, wearing something like Robe and mail. He could also have a book in his inventory.

There is one problem with development of such character. Every point spent on Intelligence gives extra skill point. So characters with low starting Intelligence will need to advance it in order to use abilities and read books. And thus gain alot of extra points to spend on skills. Character with high Intelligence has very little need to advance it and he loosing a chance to get those extra skill points. But it can be balanced by introducing some sort of artifacts that require high Intelligence to use.

Hmm... You've got a point. I suppose this would be a very challenging character design to start with. I still think it'd be quite fun to try and survive with a guy like this.

This would be a very usefull skill, assuming the next version turns out to be incredibly buggy.

Assassin but with the following stats (more balanced I think):

st 11
ag 16
in 8
ch 10

Ironflesh 1
Power strike 2
Power throw 4
Weapon master 3
Athletics 6
Looting 3
Tracking 1
Pathfinding 2
Spoting 1
Wound treatment 1
Prisoner management 1
Persuation 1
Shield 2

Why would an assassin have looting skill? Assassins kill their targets and leave, or occasionally search the body for something their employer wants, they don't kill them, strip the body, and carry all the goods in the area with them as they go.

My suggestion would be a melee/archer. Call it a ranger or whatever.A high str/agi character with 2h weapon proficiency and 6-9 power draw (depends on balance). Or maybe agi/int as high stats. Like 20something agility and 12+int.

Pathfinding as skill, maybe spotting too and maybe some healing skills? First aid would fit well I think. Maybe looting too.

I don't like trying my hand at surviving with a merchant, nor do I think that I would like to survive with a character like that. Still, there will be some with more interest.

And here is my sorry attempd on making something not yet in here. Based on my undoubtedly weird view of a:

Robber Barron

Str 14
Agi 11
Int 12
Cha 9

Primary Skill: Crossbow/Archery
Secondary Skill: One Handed/Polearm

2 Ironflesh (or 2 Powerdraw if Primary skill is archery)
4 Riding
7 Looting
4 Prisoner Management
6 Path Finding
4 Spotting
3 Leadership

He'd start the game with some sort of heraldry horse as well as a crossbow or bow and a (spiked)club or polearm. He would be given some bandits/brigands say 14 - 21. Maybe just a new type of unit, say Robber, or Robber Knight.

More suggestions!
