New skill idea: Mount Bash

In vanilla warband loading screen you see two mounted warriors... their horses rise, readying to slam into each other, as the two veteran warriors realize they've come too close to strike each other, and they ready to strike each other with their shields, as their horses slam in unison.

Mount Bash is a move with which an experienced warrior can throw a novice off a mount with no effort.

I'd love to see this implemented as a mounted move that you can execute with a key press.  If you slam someone and they don't block - they may fall of the horse. If you try to slam someone and miss, or they're much stronger than you, you have a chance of falling off your horse.  Perhaps make it usable against infantry too.  A combination of this with the Shield Bash mod sound interesting, though I have disabled shieldbash because I can't seem to figure out how it works.

Loving Brytenwalda!

Actually, I think the normal shield bashing move is complicated enough....it sometimes worjks and sometimes not. If that problem would be solved, I think it would be cool to implement the feature you suggested.

I've found the much loved shield bash feature to be useless, if you allow the AI to use it the game becomes near impossible especially in sieges. It seems unessecary to me, I don't think the current engine of Mount and Blade can cope with this level of ambition.

I believe that the WB engine can pull it off. Things like chamber blocking and crushing through shields are already possible. Just think the stun time should be increased a bit. I find it quite useful on occasion.

Did somebody already tried play with shieldbash turned on for npc's? It makes foot combat a whole lot more challenging to me. If I get entangled with an enemy I either need to step back or shieldbash first, or find myself stunned and surrounded/cut down.

For one on one combat I can see your point. The problem is crowds of enemies, in sieges your character is often surrounded by opponents and you can hardly move as it is let alone withstand being bashed by shields every half a second. If it was used sparingly it would be useful, the AI are far to fond of it as of now.

Yep, you're right on the crowd problem. Shieldbash would be great if it were to be used at very close range only, as resort for spearmen to get some time to take a step back and take out their sidearms. It may require a whole revamp of the AI, so in this aspect, I'd agree on you on being quite ambitious.

I was also thinking of something different then the cooldown time for characters to keep them from spamming shieldbash, like their shield taking damage with each bash, and making shieldbash slower alltogether (good for npc's as well I think).

I agree, perhaps a limit could be placed on how many times the AI could actually use it per battle or perhaps associate it with the 'Shield' skill. Maybe a high armor rating could resist it, then again I have no idea what is feasible and what isn't.

It can be quite entertaining to watch it work in sync with the shieldwall formation . . .

Can anyone explain to me how it actually works? Do I have to hold the block button and then click left? Or click both buttons the same time? Or move in a special direction while blocking and clicking??? HELP!
