Laszlo

Sergeant Knight at Arms
Download Link. Note: this is a v3.1 -> v3.2 update, not a standalone patch.

Changelist

1. Local Chat is now in white text and used by pressing T

2. Global Chat is now in yellow text and used by pressing I

3. Global Chat should be more reliable that Local Chat was in v3.1. If a message doesn't appear to send, wait a moment to give the server a chance to automatically resend it for you.

4. Names above heads require Line of Sight

5. Local chat requires Line of Sight to avoid significant distance penatly

6. Drowning added! Finally! :)

Final note: PWMOD 3.1 and 3.2 should be compatible on both 1.131 and 1.132

Sweet.

Two things:

Did you add the new scene_props?

Apparently for bloodreaver whenever tries to use global by pressing I and sending the message he keeps getting "Resending message" errors. It may be simply because RCC hasn't updated to v3.2 yet though and doesn't work on clientside only.

drowning? :(
there goes my naga pirate rp :P

i cant hide underwater waiting for people to walk past to ambush them now haha

how long can you stay underwater without drowning?

Lol now there is drowning on a pretty watery map  :twisted:hehe. The ferry man will be busy tomorrow hehe.

Another thing: touching water makes you take damage - apparently we're all evil witches who burn with the touch of water. (note; just touching it makes you take damage, even if you aren't submerged.)

Sewers are useless now you take damage by water as soon as you touch a little puddle of water, doesn't matter if your head is above water level...thus I think it's impossible to get into swamp valley city on a newly reset map as all gates are closed and only way in is by sewers...

Screenie, but it is probably because the server hasn't updated.

My god we have a great response time to bug-testing this mod. xD

I don't think RCC will update to v3.2 unless the drowning problem is fixed/removed. VoS becomes impossible to play if you take damage by simply touching water.

Anyways, response will all problems to changelog.

Have yet to test, but I would suppose it works.

2. Global Chat is now in yellow text and used by pressing I
Problem - causes repeating message that says "Message resending..." to appear every 2-3 seconds.

3. Global Chat should be more reliable that Local Chat was in v3.1. If a message doesn't appear to send, wait a moment to give the server a chance to automatically resend it for you.

4. Names above heads require Line of Sight
Works beautifully. If anything is obstructing your view of a person you cannot see their name nor can they hear you.

5. Local chat requires Line of Sight to avoid significant distance penatly
Have yet to test as not everyone is using it and the server is not running it, but all other LoS things work.

6. Drowning added! Finally!
Does not work, you take damage even if you simply touch water.

... The RCC server is still on 3.1

Are you guys updating your client to 3.2, playing on the 3.1 RCC server, then coming here to report bugs?

wickerman:

I removed your posts referring to the chat hotfix for 3.1 to avoid confusion and misinformation.

It doesn't work and it's obselete, sorry :)

The global chat problem was reported by bloodreaver when he came onto the server with the update (3.2) and typed something in global and got the "Resending message" thing, two other people got the problem. This happened while the server was still hosting 3.1 so it cannot be for sure if its a compatibility problem between v3.1 on the server and v3.2 on client or an actual problem with the chat - however, the water problem is for sure, Rhazak and myself have both tested it.

Only the new native ones (tree house and fall leaves) as I didn't want to redo the patch for Laszlo after it was tested: adding a new siege ladder is very invasive, requiring changes to a lot of places; and I wasn't sure if adding client side windmill turning would cause crashes with multiple players - after more testing that seems unlikely, but I didn't want to break things. Those suggestions and more might be added in later updates.

The 3.2 patch is incompatible with 3.1, as the message ids used for the chat messages are totally different. Everyone should change the module folder name to PWMOD_32 after applying the patch, so players don't connect with the wrong version.

This should not be happening - as far as I know, the water level in a scene is fixed at z coordinate 0, so the script should only make you drown if your character's (or horse's) face is underwater. I tested the VOS map with the drowning script, and I could mostly get through the sewers fine, though a few small areas were slightly too deep, requiring me to quickly run past. I probably didn't test very thoroughly, as I don't know the map well.

Regarding the local new global chat resending thing: I'm not too sure that it will work well in practice, as resending the message when the connection is to busy might just make the problem worse... it seemed to work most of the time in testing; though if the bandwidth was limited to quite a low value, sometimes it seemed to make the client lose the connection.

I think if they could do that without too many issues it should go in, but if its a big issue dont waste time on it.

Somebody post when the server gets updated!!!

Can you update it standalone? Are there any reasons that you updated as a 'patch'..? Is the reason that it is compatible with 3.1?

About drowning, shouldn't there be a slight delay before you start taking damage as I think you'd be able to hold your breath at least a couple of seconds...
There is a slight delay, though I didn't make it very long; but the damage taken per check starts off as very little, and increases the longer the character is underwater. It might need adjusting - but if it is taken to the extreme and all players are assumed to be like champion divers that can hold their breath for long periods, the script has basically no effect on game play, unless the rivers are made very deep and wide; since underwater movement is quite fast. What do others think of the current times and damage amounts?

I'd say it wasn't uploaded as standalone simply to avoid re-downloading exactly the same art; since the only things changed are scripts, basically. It is not really compatible with 3.1, as I said; the global and faction chat messages will not work - just flood the server with long messages that will be ignored.
