I agree, it's had its day. I still like the old ones (I too am a fan of Moore), but it was already feeling a bit out of time towards the end of Brosnan's tenure. I enjoyed Casino Royale with Daniel Craig but he's never really been the epitome of Bond for me, and if they want it to be so different (as it needs to be in this day and age, and simply to be fresh), then it isn't really a Bond film anyway, so why not free yourself entirely of constraints that don't quite fit what you are trying to do with the modern version of Bond and the style of the films?
Even the old ones quickly built their own cross in trying to constantly one up the outrageousness of stunts and gadgets of previous films, and there quickly comes a point where it is of detriment to the series. But there was enough humour and pure entertainment to most of the older crop (pre Craig, and perhaps before the later Brosnan ones) that one could enjoy them, without them feeling totally out of place and time, or simply not like a Bond film anymore. It doesn't need to go on forever just because it was successful.
