What, a series of pervy unironic spy films from the 1960s based on a series of postwar books aimed at an audience who gets hot under the collar reading about unrationed food and untrimmed clothes? A character who has run the gauntlet of irony and parody and passed out the other side multiple times, to the point where it's impossible to refer to the original work in isolation anymore? Time to die? Are you nuts?

Well, unironically, I actually grew up with the Moore movies. They were on TV every other Saturday night and even now, I love them. Yeah, they're probably the worst in every way, they're mostly kitsch combined with bad taste, but I adore them, I have them on DVD (I still watch DVDs, don't judge) and watch them at least twice a year, even when I know them almost by heart; must have watched each of them at least 40 times since I was a kid. Sir Rog has a large part to play, of course. But man, if ever there was a film series that needed to stop, that's it. And their attempts at 'go with the times' are just laughable.

I agree, it's had its day. I still like the old ones (I too am a fan of Moore), but it was already feeling a bit out of time towards the end of Brosnan's tenure. I enjoyed Casino Royale with Daniel Craig but he's never really been the epitome of Bond for me, and if they want it to be so different (as it needs to be in this day and age, and simply to be fresh), then it isn't really a Bond film anyway, so why not free yourself entirely of constraints that don't quite fit what you are trying to do with the modern version of Bond and the style of the films?

Even the old ones quickly built their own cross in trying to constantly one up the outrageousness of stunts and gadgets of previous films, and there quickly comes a point where it is of detriment to the series. But there was enough humour and pure entertainment to most of the older crop (pre Craig, and perhaps before the later Brosnan ones) that one could enjoy them, without them feeling totally out of place and time, or simply not like a Bond film anymore. It doesn't need to go on forever just because it was successful.

But looking at the popularity of the films, they keep making more and more money.
I think Skyfall was the record, but also Spectre and Casino Royale were among the most profitable ones at the box office.
This new one seems to follow all the classic Bond themes, from villains about to destroy the world
to the sexy women and fast cars. The audience will love it.

Certainly the good Denis Villeneuve has an enormous challenge to do justice to this project; however, counting on his consolidated filmography, adding the enormous cast (very good headliners, here there is a lot of money invested) and the exquisite seasoning of Hans Zimmer in the musical section... the expectations as far as I'm concerned are high.

There are some bare breasts in this trailer, but the film is Benedetta. Just search Youtube.

At first I thought this was going to be another 1917 or Dunkirk, and both of those films were legitimately awful to watch, but this one actually seems to have a plot and actual characters. If it doesn't have an obnoxious dubstep soundtrack it'll blow the other two films out of the water.

Does that whiff reach you guys?

Literally just a rehashing of the imagery of the earlier films. Lmao.

Having a matrix film in the year 2021 is so bizzare to me. Societally we have moved on so much from the themes of the original trilogy. It would be like if Rebel Without a Cause released in the 70s, or if Blazing Saddles came out today. The things they're addressing have been completely swallowed up by the waves of cultural change.

It's going to be so funny when this comes out and has lines like "you need to break out of the simulation, maaaaaaan", and a bunch of 60 year old antivaxxer moms and flat earthers start clapping. Or if Morpheus says "the matrix was designed to enslave humanity...a technological prison that turns us into drones", prompting a 70 year old to tap their grandson on the shoulder and make him put away his damn phone.

Boomer revolution NOW

In Matrix trilogy there were basically new, until then unseen ways of filming a sci-fi movie (on par with 2001: A Space Odissey).
Another original and revolutionary idea already went towards "Memento".
I'm both excited for the sequel but at the same time scared i will not possibly find it having as big of a leap as the first 3 had, compared to the others in the genre.

I have some similar feeling as the one of GTA San Andreas->GTA IV leap lack thereof since.

EDIT: Also what's up with that store brand Laurence Fishburne, what happened to the original?

I actually saw the whole thing. Just pure bizarre. It makes somewhat more sense when you find out later that it was originally supposed to be Mexico-themed, but the Japanese director had a stroke or whatever, so they shot it in Japan and replaced Mexicans with Japanese.
