where the hell did this mod come from from the looks of the screenshots progress is quite good looking forward to release

Hi Barry,

First of all, I have to say that you're doing an amazing job here and that such historical accuracy brings a tremendous added value to such mod. "Unfortunately" the (sole) negative side effect is the time it takes to develop it

Talking about time consumption and development, I just found a recent thread  "Historic Castles Project - the Normans". Maybe you already saw it but anyway, it is worthy looking at
 http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,115163.0.html

Adorno is doing some great job too there by developing accurate scenes of Historical Castles (mainly Normands) and few of them may match the period you cover. So, since Adorno seems to be keen to share his work (and already did), you may appreciate using some of his scenes. Moreover, it seems he has few projects of new castles ongoing.

By the way, if you want some information on Flanders region and on what happened in 1300 in the region what is now Belgium, feel free.

Cheers, and sorry for this endless post

Banners and shields are really great! It's so realistic. But I find the shield of Granada with a sun a little bit weird for spanish muslims.

Well, believe it or not, this mod has been around for a long time.  I'd glad you look forward to the release - I think it won't dissapoint.

I've certainly been keeping my eye on that since its initial announcement.  I was planning on asking his permission to use some of them in this mod.  Some are quite period appropriate.  The motte-and-bailey system really didn't hold up as fortifications in the early 14th century, but they're beautiful nonetheless and would look great as settlements.

Any information on the Flanders conflict is welcome.  I spend a lot of time at the liebaart.org website on the Battle of the Golden Spurs, and there's a good account of both sides in an illustrated French history somewhere on Project Gutenberg.  However, image references are of invaluable use to me, as are detailed accounts.

And don't apologize - posts with substance are excellent for me.

Thank you very much.

As for the blue one with the sun, I based it on a banner from the Battle of Higueruela.  It's way off in terms of timeline, I know, but aside from the white hand on red (inspired from an Osprey source), it's one of the places I found Granada banners.  There's a blue banner with a golden sun in the middle, surrounded by calligraphy.  The writing is different (I couldn't even begin to make out the characters on the fresco painting), but it does take inspiration from that source.

I also plan on adding another type of round shield for Granada, a unique design with a fold in the middle, apparently common among cavalry but used by infantry as well.  But, that will require a new model, so I can start adding those once I can get a model of it made.

Thanks for the comments all.

Ok. Have you pics of the banner of Higueruela ? I'm quite interested.
Maybe you speak about this kind of shield:
14856478443576_the_moors_the_islamic_west_7th15th_centuries_ad_07.jpg
(the one of the horseman in the middle). I will probably make it for another mod, but I can aslo send you the model (if I make it).

Otherwise, will you keep some of Native banners ? Or will you remove them all ?

why do you wish me good luck im not making this mod

Looking again to the description of the mod, I wonder... How will you add the Kingdom of Sicily and not Aragon if the king of Sicily is James II of Aragon...?

Remember that the island itself was under James II, while the mainland area (today called the Kingdom of Naples) was under Charles II, son of Charles d'Anjou.

About the names, Charles was Rex Siciliae, while James II was also Rex Siciliae, sometimes called Rex Trinacriae (King of Trinacria, another name for the island of Sicily).

Take care!

True. Kick the sicilians out of your mod..

Yes, here is what I based it off of:

Probably all will be removed.  The ones I showed pictures of will also all be standardized, so they are all full, hanging banners.  They will likewise be full banners on the map.

Actually, I wish him luck too.  Because I can.

Or preferably, add Aragón.

I don't know if you guys are kidding or not, but...

First, the original post is way outdated.  Disregard it.  I haven't updated the information for a long time, but may soon.

Second, take a look at the banners again:
erba134.jpg

And shields 7-11 in this set:

Notice something?

Aragon has been in the mod for months.  I wouldn't dream of having Iberia without Aragon.  The Aragonese/Sicilian situation will also certainly be touched on.

The Sicilians will stay (and you'll notice they have the correct banner which incorporates Aragonese stripes), because they were the largest Italian kingdom in terms of land, and the space they occupy won't be readily replaced with another kingdom.

Thanks for the comments, but yes, Aragon being in the mod is a given.

I was semi-kidding, but I'll admit I didn't quite notice those were Aragónese. Btw; I made one of those adargas a while ago, but I'd have to do it again because it's crappy.

Awesome shields, really. And way too awesome banners too.

I think you should not make them stay as a whole. As I said, the kingdom of Naples occupied the mainland and Aragon had the island, it's quite simple.

Here's the map:

THe coat of arms of the Angevin kingdom of Sicily:

By the way, do you plan on making an independent kingdom of Mallorques? Jaume II was king of Mallorca, Menorca and the Balearic Isles, count of Roussillon and Cerdanya, lord of Montpellier and baron of Carlat. It's no big country, but it player a major role when the French king tried to occupy Aragon in the late XIIIth Century.

Take care!

Yes, here is what I based it off of:

As I said, I couldn’t begin to match the calligraphy (it's difficult to make out), but that's the design I based it off of.

Ok. But this illustration of the Gallery of Battles isn't historically accurate. Indeed, we can see muslim warriors with scimitars or curved swords (whereas spanish muslims only used straight sword, especially a sword called Espada Jineta in the XIV-XV th centuries), castillan knights with late 15th/16th century armors, etc. That's fantasy.

I am talking about that very shield.  I'd appreciate it very much if you made it, thank you.

I am trying to make one now

Probably all will be removed.  The ones I showed pictures of will also all be standardized, so they are all full, hanging banners.  They will likewise be full banners on the map.

Ok. Some of them are quite good for your mod, though.

Heh, yeah, that might be better used in my thread than here because I'm not striving to be realistic. Doesn't matter to me, though, I'm looking forward to this very much.

The shield in progress:
576992374992_sans_titre_2.jpg
I am also trying to make a jineta sword as you can see.
All textures are from Warband.

the shield needs to be round on the sides like an apple.

swords and shields may need to be smaller, as it is exaggerated in size in warband.

good luck.

Cool. That was used by moors by that time, and later on also by Spanish. It even got to America in the early times of conquest.
