New Idea for Arena(s)

I was watching "A Knight's Tale" and realized something that was missing in M&B!

One-On-One Sword Fights!

These would be rather easy to create, I think. Just have a box in the middle of the tournament ground, place the player and NPC in it, and start the fight.

Now, for armor:

Both have 2-handed swords, platemail or scalemail, guard helmets, and chain greaves.

These "Mini" arenas would be located in the Vaegir and Swadian capital cities. You would fight against f**ki*g hard NPCs, and the rewards would be amazing!

For even more money you could bet! But, unlike just betting money, you say:

"I bet for 100 Denars that I can take on two swordsmen in the Arena!"

These would still be f**ki*g hard NPCs.

Or, you could say:

"I bet for 2500 Denars that I can survive ten hours of non-stop fighting."

Now, if you were superhuman you might choose:

"I bet for 105000 Denars that I can defeat the Swadian Champion (if your're Vaegir), or the Vaegir Champion (if you're Swadian), using a butter knife.*

The Champions would have full black armor, a one handed sword, a two handed sword, a crossbow or bow, and arrows or bolts.

*Lol.

Hmmmm, butter knife.

I think this would be sweet, I want to go on a fair one-on-one npc fight. I don't like the training.

The main difficulty from attacking one single enemy lies in how good the AI is. I consider myself to be a veteran of one on one combat, and i know that most fights degenerate into block - swing - block - swing - block, until the enemy forgets to block and you smack their face in. The AI needs to be better in order for this tournament to be challenging.

Otherwise, i'd like there to be such tournaments in the game.

For me the combat has become: swing, swing, swing, swing. Since I use a fast weapon (nomad sabre), I can just click and enemy blocks. Then I click again and enemy gets hit in face cause he can't swing as fast as me.

Swing, Bleed, Repeat.

If both sides have shields in one on one combat the pc will surely win. even without a shield, it is a high chance.

Keep in mind that AI problems can be compensated for challenge-wise by giving out higher stats. An average level 15 character would likely have some trouble taking on Xerina one-on-one, just because of the stat differences.

A higher hp would probably just mean a longer battle for a little less skilled player with parrying.

In any case, it's a simple idea and presumably a simple one to implement.

Too easy to beat the AI? Maybe for the higher level hero or the more experienced player but still useful otherwise.

I think that if bets were made too high, then gamers would be tempted to simply save before combat and wager enormous amounts - resulting in low-level heros armed with Caladria's finest gear.

Given that this is a single-player game, it doesn't matter to me if someone wants to play that way, just thought I'd mention it.

I would not bother if someone cheats, so I would not bother about that. But maybe people can't wager as much you would like.
