Hi,

in the begging of some fights i get an error or the szreen freezed (looks like 2 frame goes forward and backward all the time but i can still hear sound). Then the screen gets black and the only solution is to alt + tab, to be able to continue to play, for a few minutes, then it'll freeze again.

-I formated and freshly reinstalled everything.
-I set all settings to low
-I checked "Load textures on demand" in Configuration settings
-I Have "Force Single Threading" checked in the advanced settings.
-Battle size set to 40
-Ragdolls and corpses disabled
-Anti-aliasing disabled
-No background program running
-I tried to play with directX 7
-I Set max frame rate to 80

I saw the thread about the 3gb switch but if i do so my pc gets really slow after the rebot and if i start warband an error appears that the game cant be rendered.

Try running with sounds disabled (find the setting in pre-launch->Configure->Audio). If that works (and you have issues with the 3GB switch), you can remove sounds in the Sounds folder. You're playing a mod right (not vanilla)? If you're playing vanilla, you'll likely need to get some more RAM. If it is a mod, then try removing sound files (.ogg) until your game works well.

And turn on Load Textures On Demand too ... and Vertical Sync.

@Treebeard: You are a genius!
Disabling Sound really works at least till reinforcement comes then the bug happens again. So i can kill 50 for example but if the last 20 spawn i get the bug again.

But should i remove the sounds which will appear in the fights? Or i can delete soundfiles like chicken/arena etc. which arent used in fights?
Because if i remove some .ogg files i cant start a fight because i get an error message that this file is missing.

And yes i play mods. I tried now to copy the sound + the sound.txt from naitive into the mod and it starts but i get the stutter/freezes again.

The best thing to do would be to try this link again first:

You're right about the missing sounds errors. It's best to try to solve it differently. Your issue is most likely too little RAM.

But it seems disabling sounds only helped you temporarily (until reinforcements arrived), so there seems to be more serious issues that causes this. Do you have any anti-virus program running in the background? Try disabling unnecessary background programs so you free up more memory.

How much RAM does your system have and what is your OS? Is it a 32 bit system?
Go to Start -> Run and in the Run box type dxdiag and hit enter. That will display basic info about your system.

If you have less than 3GB RAM I do recommend that you purchase a bit more RAM. If you were to buy more RAM, you'd need to find out exactly what kind of memory stick (DIMM) you currently have on your mother board and then you'd want to either add the same kind (if you have additional empty slots for memory sticks on your motherboard), or you'd want to buy new memory sticks that are supported by your motherboard (sticks with more memory capacity) and replace your current sticks with the new ones.

Other things you can do is to try turning off HDR and Blood. (Turn off blood in pre-launch->Configure->Game by chcking Hide Blood).
In some cases the issue can go away if you go to the Advanced tab in the pre-launch Configure window and then you flip the current setting for Force Single Threading.

However, it seems to be a RAM related issue so I'd say you should re-try the link above first and also use Load Textures On Demand (in the pre-launch Configure window).

hi,

i got a quad @3,6 ghz and 4 gb ram.
I already deactivated my av and fw and as i said i cant make the 3gb switch to run even if try to lower USERVA to 2000 instead of 2990. My system just runs slow if i activate 3gb and if i try to start warband in this mode i get an error that the game cant be rendered.

Also i did 800*600 @dx7 + loading on demand with force single threading and deactivated everything so hdr and blood too same as ragdools etc. but i still get the frezzes

The best thing to do in your case would be to upgrade your OS to 64 bit. (Preferably Win 7 64 bit).
Aside from that, if you search for posts by JatuWrangler, he made a tool that might help you a bit.

Edit:
Here's the thread with the tool:

That PC specs should be enough to play Native smoothly. The HD 5870 should have at least 1 GB of VRAM. That plus 4GB of system RAM (64 bit OS hopefully) should be able to handle Native textures with load texture on demand off (lessen freeze at troops spawns).

-I set all settings to low
-I checked "Load textures on demand" in Configuration settings
-I Have "Force Single Threading" checked in the advanced settings.
-Battle size set to 40
-Ragdolls and corpses disabled
-Anti-aliasing disabled
-No background program running
-I tried to play with directX 7
-I Set max frame rate to 80
My old P4 desktop can run Native better than that.

the game runs smoothly if the fight starts.
The problem is that in most fights it freezes/stutter in the begging and i cant play on. This happens in mods because i didnt play warband naitive yet with my new card but 5-6 mods i tried ( floris, ad1257,pop,shogun etc.) had this issue.

But i dont see how windows 7 would help me?  I can use 3,5 gb of my 4gb ram with xp (displayed in xp/system).

Because the virtual space for a 32bit app in XP is 2GB (or 3GB if you are willing to smother the kernel for a small increase in physical ram allocation) versus 4GB in Win7.  So, while you can use 3.5GB (that is, the kernel can map it) any given process can only address a fraction of it at any given time (and even then it is not guaranteed to get all the virtual space in physical ram).

64bit systems can also map device IO allocations above the range of your system memory.  This saves also.

Bottom line is that Windows 7 will give your application access to more physical ram (due to virtue of larger virtual space) and will grind your HD less for that virtual memory allocation.

so if i make a new partition and install windows 7 on it then boot from that and install warband/play this issue is fixed or at least i have a high chance to fix it with that?

I ask it because i got this stutterbug even if iam in a castle and talke with someone. After some dialogs the bug appears there too! So thats why i doubt that more ram with windows 7 would fix it. Alt+tab is yet the only temporay fix for it but it doesnt work everytime. I tried the tool which was posted here but it didnt help.

Try sound.

- If you have Realtek sound drivers remove them and use window's,
- Right click on speaker icon in the tray > playback devices > speakers > properties > Enchancments
  Tick "disable all enchancments"
- Then disable sound variations in m&b launcher

I dont say it will help, just Im trying to find out random freezes source myself, I've tried different things and this sound solution is last one.
Problem is freezing is absolutely random on my PC, I can play several hours without freezes and already think I've fixed it but then boom - its again there.

So I tweaked sounds, played couple of hours - no freezes for now, but cant tell if they are gone for sure. Try it.

i got indeed a realtek audio card.

But in the Control Panel- Sound i got no enchancmentstab because i use windows xp so i cant disable it?

then just disable realtek control panel (it has its own enchancments) and remove it froom loading (start>run>msconfig>startup) and disable sound variations in warband.

But as I said no guarantees its the root of freezes i need to play for few days to know for sure freezes are gone.

Also check your temperatures and power supply unit.  Those are probably within tolerance since you do not bomb out, but it is worth checking anyway (as part of routine maintenance).

Again verify that you do not have anything running in the background.  Also do a deep scan for virus.

hey,

the soundcardfix didnt help.
I checked my temps and they are fine my cpu works at 60 in warband and my gpu at 55.
I found no malware / virus. How can i check the power supply? If i need more Volt then shouldnt the pc rebot or something instead of doing this stutter thing?

This problem just happens in warband mods (naitive and multiplayer battles with battlesize 200 runs perfectly at very high)! Thats the funny thing same as it dont just happens in fight. Often i got this issue in the castle druing a conversation with a versall. Just alt+tab helps sometimes to fix it and i can play on.
I got this bug in all mods like floris, ad1257,pop,shogun, sotd etc.

As i said I didnt test it for long, today I got freezes with that soundfix too, so it doesnt work
I hope they will use some magic in the next patch.
