Regular
You know I was fighting today and I realized that they need a few new commands.

I got the idea for this one as my horse died throwing me into a mass of enemy men.

1. Help me!!! gets your men to head to your possession as if you die the battle ends.

2. Guard me!! for when u are fighting on the ground your men stay in line with you as you advance on the enemy so u aren't left alone

3. Circle up!! your men form a circle so its calvary death

Let me know what you think...thanks

i like those, but i am still getting use to the new ones in the 0.8x version and more will confuse the hell outa me.

How are these different from f2?
I've always seen that as one of it's prime uses.

I think that there are more urgent commands needed at the moment such as "hold fire" or "switch weapons" (for lancers) and a separate key for horse archers as well.

I was also thinking maybe positions like a line or a box postion for your army and also maybe able to select who goes into battle first

Agreed, F2 (Follow Me) already does the first two. It kind of achieves the third as well, although probably not as effectively as the OP intended.

On the subject of commands... am I the only one who thinks "stand closer together!" and "stand further apart!" sound daft? Surely "close up!" or "tighten formation!" would be much more professional sounding..

Your right, and "Spread out!" for "Stand further apart!"

'Close ranks!' & 'Fan out!'

Zathan

The second sounds a little modern...

How about 'tight formation' & 'loose formation'?

Those two sound the most medieval to me... too much AOE methinks... (The word formation is lodged in my mind...)

I'd like a mixed advance.
Cav slowing down to slowest
unit.

Still, there's a limit to what should be coded
in. I can simulate this, by leading my troops.

Yeah; but it'd be nice if the AI reached the stage where it's clever enough that it can figure out what formations to use and when to use them. Then the AI enemies would feel like player led enemies... and finally Mount and Blade combat would be flawless.

An example of what I mean would be this:

Mountains = AI cavalry find a location from which they can charge for maximum results, whilst their archers stick to tops of mountains and infantry stay around the archers, but move when archers are going to fire.

Ideally the AI would get all three to co-ordinate so that there are three attacks in rapid succession.

Archers fire, thus forcing the enemy to either put up their shields or get filled with arrowheads, cavalry knock 'em over and infantry attack the temporarily disorganised army.

armagan & his team have already developed a way to make the AI stay still (in sieges only the archers do anything but push the siege tower along.)

So it's not too much of a stretch to assume that he and his team could make something like my suggestion possible.

But if the AI never changed from here then I'd still give them an 8 or 9 out of 10; they do seem to know how to use their greater bulk to overwhelm you.
